Can’t fathom why the owner and trainer have opted for Sam Twiston-Davies over Daryl Jacob. He has shown himself as more than capable.
January 11, 2014 at 16:43 #464658All the pro gamblers on here will tell you that it’s all about the horse and that the jockey makes no difference, they could put you Seven Towers on Big Bucks and he would still get round.

A bit of a surprise but good luck to young Sam.

January 11, 2014 at 16:55 #464663I am a big fan of S T-D
It’s an unfortunate acronym…

January 11, 2014 at 17:00 #464664Maybe Jacob has to ride Zarkander? I’m pleased as I am a big fan of Sam Twiston-Davies
January 11, 2014 at 17:54 #464673I’d be a bit miffed if I was Daryl Jacob. Stable jockey but doesn’t get to ride the best horse in the stable? Hardly a vote of confidence from trainer/owner is it.
January 11, 2014 at 18:02 #464675I am not a fan of Jacob so am pleased as I think Sam will be Champion jockey when McCoy retires. Very capable young lad.
I wish him all the bestJanuary 11, 2014 at 20:37 #464689Yeah good luck to him. He’s a really eloquent lad, and I hope he has success on BB.
January 11, 2014 at 23:20 #464703Do think Young Twister is the better jockey, however, he’s not stable jockey. Not to be allowed the ride on one horse is unfortunate, owners prerogative. Not to be on the best two horses in the yard (Big Buck’s and Silviniaco Conti) – is worrying for "No 1 stable jockey". Could be contageous amongst owners.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2014 at 04:59 #464710After appointing Twiston-Davies the owner Andy Stewart stated this is no reflection on Darryl Jacob.
Well excuse me this is definitely a reflection on DJ.January 12, 2014 at 10:36 #464713Apart from the top 3 or 4 jump jockeys the next bunch are pretty much of a muchness for me.
If AP & Walsh aren’t available I would have gone for Carberry.I certainly wouldn’t bust a gut to get STD to ride my horse in preference to others. I know some good judges and Gingertipster rate him highly but I’ve not seen it yet, maybe I’m just slow on the take up.

"I know some good judges and Gingertipster"
.
Make sure you separate the two.
Said I thought Young Twister was a better jockey than Jacob, didn’t say I rated him that
"highly"
Eddie. Though with age on his side has potential. AP, Ruby and Barry are the three best jockeys I have ever seen, let alone of today’s riders. Then there’d be a bit of a gap to the likes of Richard, Noel and Sam.
Paul Carberry wouldn’t be in my top 10 of today’s jockeys. Excels on difficult to win with types who need holding up to the last possible second. But seems to want to ride too many horses as if they are difficult to win with types who need holding up to the last possible second.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2014 at 14:21 #464737Is Noel Fehilly going to be retaining the partnership with Silviniaco?
January 12, 2014 at 16:06 #464745I’d assume that Daryl would need to be available for Al Ferof if he runs in the Gold Cup so it makes sense for Fehily to keep the ride on Silviniaco Conti. What would be a concern would be if Mr Hales suddenly didn’t want him to ride his horses.

As stable jockey shouldn’t Daryl have the choice though?
January 12, 2014 at 16:25 #464748I don’t think stable jockeys are able to dictate which horses they want to ride unless they happen to be a Ruby Walsh. And I’d imagine riding for PN is like treading on eggshells [again unless one happens to be RW]. Mr Hales is very loyal to Daryl and
vice versa. [mind you, as it looks as if Al Ferof won’t be in the GC it’ll be interesting to see if Daryl gets to ride Rocky Creek or if that will be offered to Sam as well].
January 12, 2014 at 17:00 #464749Nicholls in his Betfair column: "(Jacob) has never given me the impression that he was mad keen to ride Big Buck’s if he had then he could have been on the horse in the Cleeve Hurdle. End of Story."
