It occurred to me that point to points might offer be old-fashioned ways to make money on horse racing. Presumably one has to analyse the form and then take on the bookies, who won’t have an exchange to guide their pricing. My main concerns are getting hold of form data and perhaps uncompetitive odds being offered. It looks like you can buy form data from Weatherby’s and maybe there are other sources. But I don’t know how competitive the PTP betting rings are. Anyway I’d be interested to know if betting on course for profit is viable.
March 18, 2022 at 19:40 #1588755Don’t know much about PTP Kasparov.
I’d imagine with a lot less known about each runner bookies have no option but to bet to a big over-round. So suspect it’s even more difficult for any punter who’s not in the know. But Ian Davies will know more.Value Is EverythingMarch 18, 2022 at 20:05 #1588770When looking at the PTP form of some runners now running under rules, the overround in those races is HUGE!!!!

March 18, 2022 at 21:13 #1588786There is definitely money to be made betting on Point-to-Points.
The often significant margins on the boards at any one time don’t tell the whole story – the real margin is at odds laid – and with no exchange and final decs an hour before races it’s a rapid-chess battle of wits between punter and opinionated (they still exist) bookmaker.
