Looked at a few more meetings. Two more days at the York Ebor festival, a Monday afternoon card at Bath, an evening all weather meeting at Wolves and a workaday jumps card at Uttoxeter. All matched totals are pre-off in the win market in racecard order.

as for the merits of betting with Betfair I am with Cav , the value has gone , the victims have dried up
But they will be back , as the alternatives are just not too enticing , imagine having the choice of the big three again
no way
Lets get off the fence

September 15, 2010 at 14:24 #317641Yep Ricky, I think most of what’s still playing on the exchanges generally know what the price should be.
Stalemate.
September 15, 2010 at 14:31 #317642I doubt even the return of ‘Get In’ could revive Friday night fortunes at Wolver (you’ve got the percentage wrong by the way).
The matchsticks are snapping watching this stuff.
September 15, 2010 at 14:39 #317644Cheers Glen, have corrected them now.
September 15, 2010 at 14:45 #317645Predictable response Ricky. I’m not peddling some ‘industry line’, more just offering an opinion as to why betting on Horse Racing appears to be in quite a serious decline…
Let’s debate the actual points rather than making ill-informed assumptions…
Why is it the case that fewer and fewer individuals are willing to offer liquidity on Horse Racing on the exchanges in the morning?
September 15, 2010 at 14:50 #317647The 3.45 at Beverley. How can you bet on this junk? Culhane’s and Easterby’s quadrupling in price, the form horse Verinco sinking in the sabotaged far side. Stall one wins.
Is it any wonder nobody wants to bet on the sport any more?
September 15, 2010 at 15:26 #317653TDK, firstly its not personal , but your response reminds me of the play Hamlet , where the lady doth protest too much methinks
If the cap fits please wear it
Cheers

September 15, 2010 at 15:47 #317655Ricky – If you actually read my original post, I also hinted at a decline in the off course bookies offering on Horse Racing + have suggested in the past (in print in the Racing Post in fact) that bookmakers have gone too far in restricting successful horse racing customers over the last few years.
But hey, don’t let the facts get in the way… .
September 15, 2010 at 17:05 #317669There’s a lot of talk about indirect effects impacting exchange turnover – punters getting bored with racing, foxes eating all the chickens etc
These effects would surely be relatively gradual and have been forwarded pretty much since day one, yet what we have seen is a sudden sharp drop.
I wonder how much of what we are seeing is the direct effect of Betfair taking select clients off the exchange and laying them themselves. This would then have the knock-on effect of making the markets the exclusive preserve of the shrewdies and insiders, jading a lot of marginal bettors.
Is it a case of the chickens not so much dieing out as being moved en masse to Malta?
Maybe those who’ve heard more about this murky business (TDK?) could enlighten us……..
September 15, 2010 at 17:29 #317675I don’t know specifics about what Betfair (Malta) are up to (have heard anecdotes), but the very concept of it seems completely at odds with Betfair’s original boasts. Didn’t they walk through the City Of London with a coffin shouting "Death to the Traditional Bookmaker" (Or was that just a dream??)
Have we now come full circle?
September 15, 2010 at 18:58 #317685TDK , I think I need to say sorry , I fired of a salvo without reading your original post
shucks and I was warming to a bit of a dog fight
apologies mate
Just watch it though as I am on the warpath these days

As far as I’m concerned, the idea that exchanges are the be-all-and-end-all for Racing is dead.
I just hope it hasn’t taken fixed odds Horse Race betting with it….
The future isn’t bright with horse racing, despite dominating most betting shop walls, now becoming a marketing tool. My local Ladbrokes (Nuneaton) were running a promotion during the St Leger meeting, offering free FOBT credit for every winning bet over £10 at Doncaster.
What hope has racing got when the sponsor of one its classic meetings is actively seeking to push (successful) people away?
September 15, 2010 at 23:30 #317731It would be interesting to see the whether WBX and Betdaq are on the increase now Betfair is on the slippery slope…I sincerely hope so!
September 15, 2010 at 23:46 #317734Betdaq is slowly catching up in the racing markets, bet at that place quite alot, early markets weak but worth a look few mins before the off
September 16, 2010 at 00:00 #317736… but not after the off.
September 16, 2010 at 13:51 #317816yes very poor IR but pre race is fine
