Entries out……
Very tough race to call this, as always an extremely competitive affair.
Epatante looks the standout at this early stage, but think she might be in the frame for some Graded Races as well, as there’s surely a lot more to come.
She still makes the shortlist though, along with a few others.
Gumball keeps delivering, and with Ben Jones in such good form, assuming he’d get the gig again, then he has to be considered.
Last year’s winner Mohaayed is interesting at 20’s, as is the Nicholls pair, Birds of Prey and Scaramanga, both at 25’s.
I’m still keeping an eye on the Sophie Leech duo, Grapevine and Man Of Plenty, and of either are declared, I would certainly consider them at a price as well.
Too early for a bet though.
Shortlist
Birds of Prey
Epatante
Gumball
Mohaayed
ScaramangaDecember 4, 2019 at 18:55 #1476544December 9, 2019 at 14:52 #1476962I’ve went with one here, and close to a couple, though obviously not going mad, the best part of a fortnight before.
I’m favouring Gumball for Cheltenham, so in the same ownership, Elixir Du Nutz at 16’s, looks very tempting. He also gets an entry for The International, but the 8’s there, suggests that this might just be the plan. Very risky with other entry, but I’ll take the 16’s, with a view to laying off nearer the time, as if he does actually go here, I’d expect him to be much shorter.
Last year’s winner Mohaayed is just too big at 33’s off of the same mark, so I’ll keep an eye on him, but very close to taking that.
From the original shortlist, Scaramanga has since won, but his entry for Cheltenham is a concern.
Blazer and Protektorat also starting to appeal too.
Elixir Du Nutz 16’s
December 9, 2019 at 17:04 #1476976That’s a very good price about EDN, have taken some of that myself.
December 9, 2019 at 18:36 #1476981Certainly is Kev, just got to get him there now. I’ll no be convinced until he isn’t declared for The International.
I’m definitely going to watch the market regularly for Blazer.
December 10, 2019 at 17:37 #1477053Think it pays to be wary with these things, and Tizzard eyeing Cheltenham now if the weather is right, so I’ve laid off for a small loss. Wasn’t a massive bet anyway with those doubts, but still, I’m happier being back to square one.
December 16, 2019 at 13:34 #1477447Straightforward call for me now, and I’m happy stick with Mohaayed.
I was hoping for bigger than 16’s, to top up the 33’s, but I’ll be very disappointed and surprised if he doesn’t run now.
Mohaayed 25’s and 33’s EW 5 Places
Mohaayed 16’sDecember 17, 2019 at 16:19 #1477488I’m staying loyal to Quoi de Neuf 6-1 after backing him last time.
December 17, 2019 at 17:03 #1477491I was looking at Tamaroc Du Mathan for this on Sunday, he was 25s, then Cobden is jocked and he’s generally single figures, mad!
Ran a pleasing UK debut. However, i’ll wait and see what the market does.
Mohaayed won this race last year off the same mark. Could be another.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 17, 2019 at 17:33 #1477494I thought Protektorat was the Skelton one for this but he is a NR now, surprised by that like.
Maybe a good sign for Mohaayed’s chances so gone for him. Surprised how quickly he has come down in the weights and found it strange that they left off the cheekpieces last time. It did look a very good race a couple of weeks ago, but looks like lasy years was stronger now.
December 17, 2019 at 20:00 #1477497Wouldve been a quick turn out for protektorat after running on the 7th
December 19, 2019 at 12:42 #1477548Umbrigado 7/1
Absolutely tanked through the race last time, but didnt stay the trip
Dropped from 3 miles to 2 miles, but the heavy ground and long straight at ascot should make it enough of a stamina test for him
December 20, 2019 at 20:11 #1477648I’m backing TAMAROC DU MATHAN for this, MASTER DEBONAIR is looking really solid now and he didn’t run a bad race behind him last time out, would of come on for that aswell!
December 20, 2019 at 22:46 #1477672Turnpike Trip at 14s right now looks very interesting in my opinion. He was fourth in the Royal Bond last time out and how many times do you see a runner from that race trying his luck in such a competitive open handicap? Charles Byrnes is very shrewd and he shouldn’t come over for a run down the field.
December 21, 2019 at 08:37 #1477693He’s a very decent horse ex RL, and I had the same thought about the canny trainer, good luck with him.
December 21, 2019 at 10:32 #1477711Very competitive handicap. I’ve come down to Mohaayed and Turnpike Trip. Mohaayed has run some disappointing races, but he is back to his last winning mark and acts on this ground and course. He even won this race last year. Turnpike Trip is a bit of guess, but won same decent hurdle races in Ireland before finishing fourth in the Royal Bond, only a few lengts behind Envoi Allen and Abacadabras. If they are really as good as they say, then Turnpike Trip should be competitive here.
Mohaayed 18/1 EW
Turnpike Trip 18/1 EWDecember 21, 2019 at 12:17 #1477740I’ve always had the notion that Monsieur Le Coq might be better right handed. Backed him EW at 10/1 to 6 places.
