Giving Midnight River an early bet here. My biggest Antepost loser of the season so far at Newbury, and it never looked likely to me either during the race.
Not sure if there were any excuses, but I thought he shaped as well as ever on his comeback at Wetherby
Previous winner of this, and edging back down the weights. I think he’ll come here, so happy for an early bet at 20’s
Midnight River 20’s
December 30, 2024 at 12:14 #1717035This looks a cracker on New Year’s day. Venetia Williams has won this before
and her place as favourite is probably well deserved after winning the Betfair
Exchange Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. Problem is he gets a 8lb penalty for
that and he’s carrying 8lbs more than he’s ever carried. That’s a pretty hard
task and 11/4 is shorter than I’d like.Midnight River has already been admiably covered by Bobby, so no need to go
further other than I like him too.Nygel Twiston he’s got Tedley and Torn and Frayed. They are both big prices
20/1 and 25/1 and if one of them is a confirmed runner I’d probably have a
bet, but I’m not sure they will run.It looks like Hitman will run and he put up a decent run in the Old Roan
Chase at Aintree. There is 10s about and I think that’s a fair bet.Hitman 10/1
December 30, 2024 at 20:08 #1717077Was going to add Seddon as backup, but this Lisnamult Lad is interesting
I think this’ll be a prep run for something in March, and he’s one on my radar for Kim Muir, but thought him worth covering.
Still all about Midnight River though

Midnight River 20’sDecember 31, 2024 at 17:30 #1717149Colonel Harry back in trip looks a little less exposed than some and these 2m4f cheltenham handicaps rarely seem to have the same winner twice in a row (otherwise Gemirande would be the bet)
PP free bet so stuck a saver on Marble Sands at 14/1, as i really like the horse.

December 31, 2024 at 22:39 #1717181I really don’t trust Hitman , he’s soft but this is a step down in class so I’ll be playing e.w , if he gets in a fight he’ll fold like wet paper …
January 1, 2025 at 02:01 #1717215I have backed:
Speedwell Bay at average odds of 4.56
Midnight River 12.78
With a 5.25 saver on Colonel Harry.Value Is EverythingJanuary 1, 2025 at 09:02 #1717225Lisnamult Lad and Marble Sands for me. He won here in October and has only gone up three pouds. I can see him being competitive again. I also like Marble Sands. Back over the intermediate distance after finishing 3rd in the Rehearsal Chase. That form has been franked.
Lisnamult Lad 16/1
Marble Sands 12/1January 1, 2025 at 10:37 #1717237Plumped for
Lisnamult Lad 16/1 (BOG)
Best of luck to all today; wishing all a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

I liked that a lot, very good horse that. No concerns over blowing his mark, and I wonder if The Cotswold is on the agenda. Very interesting that run
January 1, 2025 at 14:34 #1717276Can’t see them going up in trip with Speedwell, VTC. Stick to 2 1/2 or even – the way he travelled – go back to 2 miles.
