    Hi,

Say I’m betting on the 5.30 at Ayr, can I place bets on 4 horses in that race, with 4 different bookies?

Is this legal/allowed with UK/Irish online bookmakers?

I have googled same without an answer, and did not see any mention of it in any T&Cs I read (not that I went into too much detail).

    Thanks in advance.

Ginger will be shocked that we’re only talking about four horses. :D

The simple answer to the question is yes you can bet as many as you like.

    mrhamster,

typically there is no restriction on betting several horses each to win the same race with just one bookie, never mind several bookies.

in fact most bookies would welcome such a punter with open arms.

i share the confusion of other posters as to why you might think otherwise, since there is no general rule that you are permitted to back only one horse to win each race.

if its anything to do with the term ‘win single’, the ‘single’ there refers to the number of horses on which the success of that bet depends.

it does not mean that you cannot place a separate ‘win single’ bet on every horse in that race if you wish.

It’s only good manners to back all horses across multiple books when the odds justify it.

I would go further and say that, in the war against win-single spot-betting tyranny, evidence that you have placed other such wagers on competitors elsewhere is the only conceivable defence when found in possession of a win-single betting slip and facing charges of war crimes.

That’s my understanding anyway. Maybe Wit can clarify the legalese on this issue.

    oh dear.

if we’re talking opening scenes of The Lemon Drop Kid, the issue there was never between the book and the backer.

beyond that, HK is now on hols until 8 Sep !

The trouble with this kind of thing is by the time it takes you to walk from one bookie to the next the price has gone. I’d suggest a skateboard or a pushbike or synchronised watches with four mates all in the different shops so to get on at the same time.

What happens if, like me, you don’t have four mates?

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

You can place as many bets as you wish, on different horses, with as many bookies as you like. However if you’re backing horses at SP (that’s starting prices) then it doesn’t matter where you place your bet as the horses in question will be the same price no matter where you go.

If you’re backing early morning prices or Ante Post the could be variations in prices and like shopping in supermarkets you have to look round for the best deals. (Oddschecker) http://www.oddschecker.com/ is a helpful tool to compare prices.

Rather than spend the time walking to different bookies, it could be easier to open up different accounts online.

However I strongly advise to bet only within your means, and with money you can afford to lose.

Have been doing that for more years than I care to remember!

I have in the past backed every horse in the race Ken, with the same bookmaker, to make a certain (small) profit.

B365 advertised they were going to guarantee top price on every horse in the race at a particular time (think it was 11:00 am). But unluckily for them – because other bookies prices varied quite a bit – to go through with their "guarantee", B365 had no option but to bet to an under-round, something like 95%.

I phoned my bets through and made absolutely sure they’d take all bets before I said ok!

Knew had to be careful though, if I put thousands on they’d be likely to close the account.
