I have done threads before on Geraghty.I think his bottle as gone. I have not seen a horse he as ridden recently that as not mnade some sort of jumping mistake. all the horses he rides can’t be that bad jumpers surely.

His ride on Ocean Cove at Perth was very good. Other than that i have to admit i wouldn’t be his biggest fan either.

In retrospect I think leaving Henderson was a mistake as with the JP job he doesn’t have a lot of top class ammunition to go to war with (especially over fences). Outside the good hurdlers, JP has a lot of very average horses all across the board with his varied trainers – it was exactly the same when McCoy was riding for him as well.

Given the right horses Barry can still get the job done but it can’t help riding a lot of average horses that have outsiders chances at best in most races. In this last season in GB he had the best winner to rides percentage (23%) but in Ireland that dropped to 14% mainly because he tends not to be on the most fancied horses.

LD73 its interesting jp has had a bit of an average year…it was mentioned a lot that JP had made massive splashes in FR over the past year or so, maybe those horses are next seasons horses…

Surprised the media haven’t picked up on this but since the start of the new season Geraghty seems to be only riding occasionally for McManus, and even riding for other people when McManus has horses in the race. He still seems to be getting the odd ride but doesn’t seem to have what you might call the position of First choice jockey so far this season. Is McManus following o Leary in just using the best available?

Yes no surprise. Although Geraghty may have lost his retainer fee (whatever his contract was and he may have been paid off by McManus  ) he will much better off (maybe not financially) being freelance. Looking at the stats, and I know we are very early season, Geraghty has a 16% strike rate to 14% in 2016/17 whilst Mark Walsh, who seems to have taken over, is showing 8% as against 14% in 2016/17. BG will still get rides from various owners/trainers and will still ride the odd McManus horse. With very few of the McManus horses with Mullins or Elliott it’s not the gig it once was in Ireland. Geraghty may still ride the English based horses such as Buveur D’Air which are obviously much more appealing.
