It seems that poor old (well not that old) Barney Roy has fallen a bit short of the
mark in the Stallion stakes……he’s firing blanksAt least we will get to see him back on the racecourse shortly, he’s in training
with Charlie Appleby. It will be interesting to see how he gets on, at least he’s
had a bit of a holiday, and had some fun into the bargain before he found himself
a couple of stone (stones) lighter. OuchApril 25, 2019 at 20:21 #1422526A shame he didn’t make it at a stud a very good looking horse
Ran some decent races and was a tad unlucky at times
I wonder why he’s gone with Appleby.?
He was Hannons blue eyed boyBlackbeard to conquer the World
April 26, 2019 at 14:11 #1423122Wasn’t Barney Roy bought by Godolphin whilst at Hannon’s, Nathan? ie Wasn’t sent there.
I’d expect a Godolphin horse who’s out of training to go to a Godolphin yard.Barney Roy didn’t win the amount of races one of his ability deserves – mainly due to being in some top quality races and beaten by a slightly better racehorse. However, at this stage the current bunch of older milers don’t look up to much – and the best three year olds may turn out to be either middle-distance or sprinters…
…Could Barney yet be Champion Miler?
Value Is EverythingApril 26, 2019 at 22:23 #1423327Ah, yes Ginge he was sold to them but stayed with Hannon, thought Hannon had done well enough with him to maybe send him back but their decision and Appleby doing so well.
I think he ran some cracking races over 10f, he’d need it on the better side of good but true that the miler division looks open enough
I make him about an even money shot at this stage to be someones wildcard in the 10 to follow..Blackbeard to conquer the World
April 27, 2019 at 15:24 #1423470When horses retire from racing and come back, do they generally come back to the same level of ability? The only frame of reference I have is Toast of New York, who clearly didn’t that could be an age thing as well.
April 27, 2019 at 23:14 #1423529I’d predict not quite Degaussed but
He was lightly raced which should be in his favourBlackbeard to conquer the World
April 28, 2019 at 23:59 #1424991On the whole they tend not to Degaussed. Barney Roy is a horse that I’ve got a real soft spot for, and I would like to see him buck that trend.
April 29, 2019 at 16:01 #1428854Not sure what Barney has been doing for the last two years but his Racing Post Rating seems to have shot up! Looking at the card for his comeback appearance on Wednesday, his adjusted RPR is given as 152!!!
Looks like they’ve taken his best RPR of 124, adjusted it to ten stone… and then adjusted it again. Slap on the wrist time for whoever did that.
April 29, 2019 at 21:29 #1429210Let us hope that Barney Roy comes back to the racecourse in the same way that Al Kazeen did, only a few years ago. He won the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1), finished a close second in two other Group 1s, and won The Prix d’Harcourt (Group 2). So, it can be done. I wish him all the best on the racecourse, because it must be a duller life than the one he has had to give up.
May 2, 2019 at 08:15 #1430333Was a pretty good effort that first time out
