I can’t remember a stronger looking renewal…….
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/90/wincanton/2019-11-09/742161
Although 4lbs higher this time around, it just seems crazy to not cover defending champ Present Man here. This is the race he’ll be trained for, and on the last two runnings, has obviously got a lot going for him. Bryony Frost already jocked up, and even if those extra pounds take their toll, a big run looks assured, and the 7’s surely won’t last.
Give Me A Copper looked the right type for The Ladbroke to me, but he didn’t even get an entry. I’m convinced he wins a big one this year, and I reckon the 10’s on him here is fair.
White Moon and Sumkindofking both ran here last week. White Moon had the race in the bag, but fell at the last. He can be a bit inconsistent, but he’s another who I think wins a big one this year, and (I assume) he’s unchanged here on 137. That’s a generous mark, and no surprise to see him second fav at 8’s.
Although a few pounds higher for being runner up last year, Sumkindofking was a proper eyecatcher last week, I suspect this has been the plan. Yard have been in decent form, and win or lose, that 25’s is mad crazy.
Those were the trio who jumped out, but as I said, it looks a vintage renewal, with this lot lurking in the wings….
Achille – Highly promising horse for Venetia, and no doubt one to keep onside this winter.
Beau Du Brizais – Hobbs Runner who was another to run well here last week. Bang there on that evidence.
Calipto – Another Venetia entrant. Possibly high enough in the weights, but the manner of his win here was impressive, and he certainly earned that rise in the weights, as he won again at Ascot in a very strong race. Impossible to rule out.
Caroles Destrier – Won last year’s Mandarin, before being just as impressive in The Veterans, again at Newbury. Every chance on that form, and not hammered in the weights.
Cloth Cap – Disappointing reappearance At Chepstow, but everything we seen last year, suggests a horse who’ll be Aintree bound this year, and needs a win to make it to the big one.
Lil Rockerfeller – Popular horse, who’d became frustrating over fences, but much more like it behind Ballyoptic last time. That form was more than franked at the weekend.
Rock The Kasbah – Very hard to predict, but on a going day, this is the type of race for him. Would have no concerns with him going fresh.
Royal Vacation – On the face of it, he’s been disappointing, but connections have got Theatre Guide ready for this in the past, and I just wonder, with him missing, is this the long term plan for Royal Vacation?
The Young Master – Former “Winner” Of this, and he was as good as ever last year, he had a great season. Has a run on the Flat under his belt, well treated, and he looks a massive player.
Walk In The Mill – Last year’s Becher Winner, and he’s another who looks well treated. Popular opinion would be that The Becher will be the plan, but he just looks one to be wary of.
West Approach – Looked all over the winner at Cheltenham last week, but didn’t quite get there. Has to get his head in front sooner or later.
There’s loads more who catch the eye, but these were the ones who jumped out.
As I said, seriously good looking renewal.
The Young Master and White Moon are screaming for me to go three handed here, for now, I’ll go with this pair.
I haven’t bet Sumkindofking yet, I’ll watch the market, but I’ll chance Present Man just now.
Present Man 7’s
Sumkindofking 25’s EWNovember 6, 2019 at 14:12 #1474210I’ll probably say this a lot this season, but Cloth Cap for me, though definitely not until the day.
November 6, 2019 at 16:03 #1474221I agree with you Lemmons, but I did go in the other day and took the 10/1. Still
plenty of that about.Cloth Cap 10/1
November 6, 2019 at 17:03 #1474227GIVE ME A COPPER 9/1 for me PN felt last season was a horse for Ultima at festival and with trainer record in race i feel can beat stablemate
November 8, 2019 at 17:56 #1474341Happy enough with my pair in this, but as I’m not betting much tomorrow, I don’t mind going three handed in this.
Can’t bear to desert White Moon or The Young Master, but at the current price, and four places available, I just think Royal Vacation is worth a chance. I’ll try to beat the 18’s.
Present Man 7’s, 8’s
Sumkindofking 25’s EW
Royal Vacation EWNovember 8, 2019 at 23:15 #1474374I like Walk in the Mill here at 18/1. I think the handicapper has been very kind to him for lowering his mark for finishing 4th in the Grand National. Course and distance shouldn’t be an issue. The one concern is that this run will be a prep run for the Becher, but at 18/1 I’m willing to take that risk.
Walk in the Mill 18/1 EW
November 9, 2019 at 07:38 #1474393Cloth Cap is proving to be costly to follow ante post, I’ve had my fingers burned twice now
with both this and the Sodexo Gold Cup. In the same race I Gave a write up about Whisper,
who was withdrawn on the day because of the heavy going. Basically I wondered why at 11, and
seemingly with his best days well behind him, he wasn’t retired. He’s had his problems and
was a shadow of his former self in his 2 runs since coming back from 18 months off. He moved
to Sam Thomas from Nicky henderson in October and then ran like a drain later that month at
Chepstow. So why is he still running? I’m taking the chance, and admittedly it is a big chance,
that he’s showing something to Thomas otherwise why watch a horse that at the top of his game
was a touch of class, trail home behind horses that he wouldn’t have left in his wake. If he
does trail home behind these I think this will be his last run, but I’m going to take the chance
that he is showing something at home. If he is then he’s 16lbs lower than before he had his enforced
absence 2 years ago. If there’s anything of the old Whisper lefy in him, maybe he could have a last
hurrah. At 66/1 I don’t think it would hurt to have a few quid on e/w.November 9, 2019 at 07:48 #1474395Cancel the above, he’s just been withdrawn again
November 9, 2019 at 08:55 #1474398Hoping this one makes it to to post. I think that Just A sting at 7/1
has a decent chance in this. He won 1st time out last year at Uttoxeter, and followed
it up next time out at Exeter before chasing home Adrien Du Pont in a decent handicap
at Kempton in December. Two poor runs in the spring have brought his mark back down to
just 3lbs more than his last win at Exeter. Harry Fry says he has him in very good shape,
he’s got a nice weight here and 1st time cheekpieces might eke out a bit more.November 9, 2019 at 09:57 #1474405I am with you here Graham JUST A STING for me at 7/1 with a save on Soupy Soups at 16/1
Be Lucky

November 9, 2019 at 19:05 #1474452Should have lumped on the winner when they said Sir Alex was there; someone at Nottingham told me to always look out for which owners are there. Well done, Darren.
November 9, 2019 at 19:22 #1474453Well done Darren
