It is ridiculous how some of the American players have been asked in their post-match press conferences about how they feel about representing America and playing under its flag.

Aside from the fact the current situation in America is not relevant to a tennis tournament, the premise of the question is flawed. They are not representing America. They are private sportsmen and sportswomen making their living.

The Australian Open is not the Davis Cup, or Federation Cup, or the Olympic Games where players do represent their countries. There are no teams, no national anthems and no one is playing in national colours.

Amanda Anisimova was right to give one pathetic “journalist” short shrift.

I find the fans with their flags even more annoying. For instance all the Swiatek fans should be waving Belgian or Swiss flags as well, since her coach is from Belgium and her main sponsor (on) from Switzerland. That is what Iga also represents…..
