Granted they had to cover six meetings, Ireland, England & France. Also there was numerous delays, including the Big one.
We had Hereford & Listowel on the split screen when the Derby eventually went off, instead of putting those 2 meetings under the red button they decided to put the Derby under it instead. Where I was watching ATR, I had no access to the Red Button or RUK. But all was not lost, so I thought, at least they would be showing a full recording when the other races were finished. To my horror, Dale Mc Keown unable to hold his excitement that Frankie had just won another Derby winner, told us the bloody winner before the recording was shown. I could have strangled him, ruined the whole thing for me, not quiet the same looking at a race when someone tells you the winner before hand.
Obviously I didn’t back Dettori, my ew bet Sagara was stone last turning in and ran on strongly when the race was already over, what the Jockey thought he was on I dont know.
Basically what I am getting at, Group 1 races should take precedent over mediocre thrash from Hereford & Listowel. :(

June 4, 2007 at 10:35 #63680I have both ATR & RUK at home but I couldn’t watch it at home yesterday because of certain other commitments.
June 4, 2007 at 10:36 #63681Didn’t have a problem with that bit of coverage as it could be watched on red or as AP says on RUK.
ATR coverage yesterday though was a shambles which could have been avoided if both foreign meetings had been put on red instead of mixed up with British racing.

Most non Sky subcribers dont have access to the red button.
June 4, 2007 at 12:03 #63683Anyone know how to get a full screen when you press the red button? I get this tiny picture
June 4, 2007 at 17:18 #63684ATR’s coverage isn’t a patch on RUK’s anyway, especially when they have that ^%*$ presenting.
I watched the French Derby on RUK and I’d advise anyone to subscribe to it.
The red button thing doesn’t work for me either as I’m on cable.
June 4, 2007 at 19:06 #63685I was like you, MM, had to watch it on ATR, and it annoyed me a bit that they revealed who’d won before they even showed the recording, but I think that was just a slip, just something he (I thought it was Luke Harvey actually) did on the spur of the moment bwithout thinking. Frustrating at the time, but a symptom of having far too many races on all at once. They’ve got to make decisions in seconds so they’re bound to make wrong ones from time to time.
Press red button.
Side arrow to get Xtra picture.
Then press 1 and when picture comes back up (still in box) press red button again and you will get it full screen.
June 5, 2007 at 20:01 #63687I wasn’t too upset when they stayed with the two live races which were already underway, thinking, as I did, that they’d replay it in a minute or two, which they did.
However I didn’t bargain for the spoiler McKeown and his ‘Frankie’s won another Derby’ announcement.
A bit like the replays of the races run before they are on air on Ch 4. Just as the field passes the furlong marker, with six in with a shout and your selection looming up on the rails, the result scrolls onto screen. What is the point of that!
June 5, 2007 at 20:05 #63688thank you Richard

Exactly! I totally agree. They obviously haven’t thought that through.
No I wasn’t bothered about seeing a replay of the Derby either, not in the least, but it completely ruined the excitement knowing Frankie had won. What a pillock!
June 7, 2007 at 02:47 #63690Thanks Richard. I’d always wondered that myself as I hate that tiny inset picture. I’d have paid for that info. You should have put it on eBay LOL
