Euro,
Erm, because my definition of the best bet is one that I regard as my banker of the meeting irrespective of price.
Is that acceptable?

June 17, 2010 at 00:42 #301336Strange that Kite Wood hasn’t been mentioned. Must admit I overlooked him from the start, but why’s twice the price of Manifest is beyond me and if any horse in the race has the profile of a GC winner it’s Frankie’s mount?
June 17, 2010 at 02:43 #301361Kasbah Bliss.
Solid G1 form in the book and sure to see out every yard of the trip. Got to be the value bet of the race.
June 17, 2010 at 08:27 #301394I dearly hope that Henry Cecil trains his sixth Ascot Gold Cup winner today.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
June 17, 2010 at 08:36 #301395Ask
– not proven will stay
Age of Aquarius
– not proven will stay
Kasbah Bliss
– only ran once at Ascot in the long walk hurdle, and lost
Manifest
– unproven at trip and course
Kitewood
– unproven over the trip
Abit about the top 5 in the betting above, i would say out of these, manifest is the only one that wants gd to fm. The others i would say need abit of cut.
I put it between kitewood and ask.
June 17, 2010 at 09:04 #301400Big bucks is right, AoA is a definite place lay. The watering of the track will help Rite of Passage and I think he might run into a place.

Kasbah Bliss
travels, quickens, stays and has very little to find with Kite Wood having been given a mountain climb to last time. Thierry Thulliez is a worry, but there are no stamina concerns about his mount and experience could just give him the edge over Manifest.

Off a stronger pace over a longer distance, Purple Moon’s class may well come through to reverse that form.
Err, so the pace is going to be stronger today over a longer trip? I don’t think so.
June 17, 2010 at 10:53 #301434It won’t be a sprint after a crawl will it, thought that was obvious
June 17, 2010 at 11:11 #301439…unless Frankie gets to the front and racks ’em and stacks ’em?!
June 17, 2010 at 11:28 #301446Talking of the interview that Chappers did with Henry Cecil – did anyone see it?
He seemed to think that there was far less opposition than some listed on here!
He was almost dismissive about some! His only worry for ‘Mani’ was that it might come a year too soon?
Also said he prefers some juice…June 17, 2010 at 11:55 #301454My 100% book:
Manifest 100/30, Ask 4/1
, Age Of Aquarius 6/1, Kite Wood 17/2,
Darley Sun 11/1
, Kasbah Bliss 13/1, Akmal 16/1, Rite Of Passage 22/1,
Tastahil 33/1
, Purple Moon 40/1, Bannaby 66/1, Montaff 800/1
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2010 at 12:10 #301460Wouldn’t have thought they’ll be hanging around with Kite Wood, Akmal, Manifest and Age of Aquarius in there. Frankie certainly won’t be ‘stacking and racking’ with Akmal in there, Dickie Hills will be desperate for an uncontested lead on him.
Darley Sun for me.
June 17, 2010 at 13:21 #301482Rite Of Passage will do for me, unlike Royal Gait, he’s never looked totally convincing over hurdles
June 17, 2010 at 13:52 #301489It was no surprise to see Manifest win the Yorkshire Cup in such impressive fashion. A beautifully bred horse, he had shown immense potential in his previous starts, including a 19L maiden success.
What impressed me more than anything at York was his action. If you could choose a horse to showcase the mechanics of a thorougbreds movement, this fellow would be on your shortlist.
Comapre his action that of Elusive Pimpernel, for example. When the John Dunlop-trained colt hits top gear and extends, it looks as though any second his head will come detached from his body.
Manifest’s action, from head to tail, is smooth as silk – everything is working in perfect tandum.
I hope he wins today and wouldn’t it be great to see Henry Cecil have another top class stayer? It’s been too long.
Ask sets the standard and his course form, when third in the King George behind Conduit, is a notch above any of these. His Longchamp success over an extended one mile-seven bodes well with a view to tackling this trip and he appears the most likely winner.
Kite Wood is one of my favourites and he will be thereabouts at the finish. He should stay the trip after beating Kasbah Bliss over an extended one mile-seven, although that was a slowly run contest and this will test him more.
Kasbah Bliss is sure to stay and should appreciate Ascot. Could be vulnerable to a couple of younger rivals.
The Ascot Gold Cup is becoming more and more speed orientated, with so many top quality middle ditance performers tackling the race. This is a very, very good renewal and many of these could (and some have) hold their own in top twelve furlong contests.
June 17, 2010 at 13:53 #301490Zar – I wasn’t being overly serious!
No doubt one or two will ride like the are on something from a ‘Spaghetti Western’ that goes all day!

This used to be easy…..you just backed Yeats and went and collected.
Age of Aquarius has been chosen to continue the run but I think there’s more hope than confidence where he’s concerned.
He’s always gave me the impression he’s a bit of a one paced boat and while distance can help such beasts the Gold Cup is more often than not won by a horse with a fair bit of toe.
One that fits that bill and stays is Ask…….nothing was finishing better than him in Zarkava’s Arc and he’s always looked like a Gold Cup horse waiting to happen to me.
That good run in the Arc was enough for SMS to keep him at middle distances but now at the age of 7 years old the long wait ends and there’s massive confidence behind him.
Kasbah Bliss is pretty much exposed and I’ll be surprised if one or to of the newcomers to this trip don’t beat him.
Kitewood could win but he’s not ahorse i would trust.
Purple Moon could run well at a big price he clearly wasn’t himself last time.
Manifest was impressive at York it wouldn’t be hard to imagine him winning but at one time in that race he looked to be going knowhere which is a slight worry.
Ask is a class above Manifest on all known form and if he stays there can be only one result.
Ask
will do for me with plus a place bet on Purple Moon.
