Sadly couldn’t be saved after pulling up sharply in the Scottish national. Confirmed today by Paul Nicholls at his owners day. RIP. Very sad.

It looked like Arpege D’Alene was still working the game out and there were definitely big days ahead for him.
RIP

this is terrible news, was hoping not to see his name here and thought he had been saved.
RIP Arpege D’Alene this racing game breaks your heart over and over.
Condolences to all who loved and cared for him.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 26, 2017 at 00:02 #1298316Yes, this is very sad news about a really promising young horse. It is noteworthy that, although happily there have been no fatalities in the Aintree Grand National during the past five seasons, sadly horses have died in the other Nationals. As well as Arpege d’Alene we lost Golden Chieftain in last year’s Scottish National, and also Onenightinvienna in the Welsh National. Tammy’s Hill was killed in the 2015 Irish National. Although we should never be complacent about safety it is unhappily inevitable that there will be some tragedies in large fields of staying chasers in competitive events such as these. However I am very relieved that Liverpool’s safety record has continued to improve, and also that it is now 17 years since any horse has died or been seriously injured in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Let’s hope that our equine friends all return safely after the magnificent finales at Punchestown and Sandown Park this week.
