Sometimes JP’s Cheltenham winners run without JP having a bet. I believe it depends on the odds not the possibility of the horse winning.I myself would need at least 50/1 before I would bet against Dunguib and I don’t really know if that is realistic odds to beat that horse.
50-1 Might tempt me into an EW Loosen My Load, but I’d want more than those odds to back to win against him
If there is one horse in the race who can beat Dunguib then I believe there must be at least two!(If he can be beaten then he is not the horse I think he is.)
Very well put, that’s the best summing up sentance I’ve seen regarding this race, however I’m sure he is the horse we both think he is.
PS If it had been possible for Golden Cygnet to be in the race who would you back?
March 9, 2010 at 16:22 #281359Golden Cygnet….was a electric Jumper
March 9, 2010 at 16:33 #281361Wallace….it would be a hell of a dificult choice but I think I’d agree with you, right this minute it would be Golden Cygnet for me too but I’ll leave to option open to change my mind after Tuesday
March 9, 2010 at 17:28 #281370Trouble is I have not seen Dunguib trying. I watched the last race of GMOOH and I could see him galloping to the line. I have never seen Dunguib galloping in that manner to the line. He just seems to glide to the finish.Fionnegas is a very, very good horse and he left him behind so easily, without raising a gallop.Amazing.I know nothing about Golden Signet, have never seen him running. If you know where I could watch him I would love to do so.

There’s a poor quality video of him winning the 1978 Supreme on you tube
Look out for the horse pulling his jockeys arms out as he drags him past the whole field at the top of the hill

You’ll need to check your spelling to find it GOLDEN CYGNET
March 9, 2010 at 18:56 #281381A slightly better quality video of Golden Cygnet winning at Cheltenham in 1978.

March 9, 2010 at 20:07 #281395Hi Cheltenham,
Most search engines overlook my poor spelling. It is nice to get the correct spelling; don’t look so dumb in public. So thanks for that. One of the consequences of old age is that spelling starts to slip,so I have been told quite a few times.March 9, 2010 at 20:20 #281397Himself,
Thanks for the reference. Just watched Gold Cygnet winning the supreme novice. Very impressive.Reminds me of Dunguib.Reassuring to know it can be won so easily.JP said he likes to get his winners out of the way the first day so it will be very interesting with GMOOH and CCB in the first two races.March 9, 2010 at 20:24 #281399Himself,

Who knows what the running plans are but right now we have Dunguib, Get Me Out of Here, Oscar Whisky, Peddlars Cross,Blackstair Mountain and Dan Breen who have all won races with top class performances.
When it comes to a hot pot like Dunguib normally the first question asked is what will he find under pressure.
He has now won 4 hurdle race without being asked a question but not against horses like he will face on Tuesday. The pace will be hectic and nothing will be thinking thigs like, I better not finsish too close to him or I’ll get murdred in future handicaps. Everything will be trying for it’s life.
With a horse like Dunguib it’s very easy now to imagine him cruising past everything and winning as he likes but when it comes to the race itself and 3 or 4 horses are all going like winners 3 out the punter who has backed this banker with his life savings will be panicking like hell.
Last year it was Hurricane Fly who was going to trounce everything. He looked an absolute certainty going into the race but in the end had to miss it. He had beaten Go Native pointless in 2 previous meeting but it would be a foolish man to say he would have beaten him again at Cheltenham the way he won that day.
9 times out of 10 these would be certainties get turned over because some other horse hasn’t shown his full potential. He may have won a couple but the trainer has still been training him with this one race in mind.
However the question first asked "What will he find under pressure" for me has already been answered. Dunguib has already sahown in last years bumper that he not only has this pheonominally high cruising speed he wuickens like a greyhound when asked. The distance he put between himself and the others in a matter of a dozen strides last season was unbelivebale.
They had gone a right clip that day and although not on the same course the race was run 14 seconds slow in comparison to Mikael D’Haguenet time which was 16 seconds slow. That’s enough to convince me that they simply won’t be able to go fast enough in the Supreme to get Dunguib into any sort of serious trouble and as we know he can quicken like a greyhound this is one Banker who IMVHO will fooking hack up.

Dunguib is now drifting out to about evens but that’s because it’s the first race of the meeting. I wasn’t going to back him because I made a lot of doe backing him to win his next 3 races after he won the first one but how many chances do you get like this?
At even money the temptation is too much so like all those other punters who will be panicking like hell 2 out you can count me in. Just hope the big galoot wins and kicks off Chelters with a bang.
PS Garde should win but I think Sunnyhillboy is where JP will be looking to do most damage.
March 11, 2010 at 14:19 #281715As for not meeting the class of this race I believe that Fionnegas was at least as good as what he will meet on Tuesday. Check out Fionnegas’ form and McCoy for some reason was engaged to ride Some Present that day and he was way behind Fionnegas. Some Present finished ahead of Rite of Passage last year at Cheltenham and Quel Esprit was 4 lengths farther back. They have both proven themselves over hurdles since so I fail to understand what you mean by he has not beaten anything of high quality over hurdles. In fact I suggest you follow Fionnegas next week to frank the form.
