And after all that, The “Ladies” win it. Dare I whisper “Girl Power”?

Captain Robbo’s bet on the Rest of the World was looking so good after two races. And his big priced each way selection in the penultimate race finished…fourth.
August 12, 2023 at 20:47 #1659661Haha, very retro there CAS!
At least we can now all get back to enjoying the Racing League after today’s frivolous distractions
August 12, 2023 at 20:49 #1659662If ‘girls’ is good enough for Thommo then it’s good enough for me. Are you well?
August 12, 2023 at 20:52 #1659663The chicks win.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 12, 2023 at 20:53 #1659664Good effort from Captain Robbo in his quest for betting value.
Good effort from whatever is the most generally acceptable title for the female riders team who won it.
I prefer the Shergar Cup to the Racing League – not least because it’s only one day a year.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 12, 2023 at 20:57 #1659667Currently watching an episode of “The Chase”. Only two of the four contestants made it to the final chase, both female and neither of them young.
Before Bradley Walsh started asking their questions he said “Good luck, girls”.
Off with his head!
August 12, 2023 at 21:01 #1659672The misogynist!

I’ll go with Wip for bothCharles Darwin to conquer the World
August 13, 2023 at 00:46 #1659685I never watch this irelevant nonsense . However , I am now unfortunately going to have to suffer even more of this being forced down my (viewing) neck.
Not only do the ladies / girls / persons whose gender is not relevant ( please take your pick dependant upon your , preference ) as I am not politically correct enough to traverse this ever changing landscape, but the media darling , that is Hollie Doyle , seems to have won a gong of some sort.
This will translate into even more nonsense being spouted by media outlets , and most notably Sky Sports Racing.
My granddaughter even asked me last week , why they keep referring to her as “Our Hollie” during their presentation ( If I remember correctly is was a day or two before the Prix Maurice du Gheest ?).
It does beg the question , as to how this is objective racing journalism ?.August 13, 2023 at 03:18 #1659688They the media create these false Gods loosely connected, even peripheral to the main sport of horseracing for a purpose; to heighten the experience of watching horses running around bendy tracks, and we ditto that by bringing back Captain Robbo from Davy Jones locker. Fundamental to this is something the late great Barry Dennis once said on here, racing is sooo boring !
That statement was the most provocative I have possibly ever read on any horseracing forum, and maybe he was generalizing about a wet Lingfield car park, but maybe not, and it even eclipsed Keith the Teeth’s similar jibe about postings in the fly zone in 2004 being equally boring. There is a lot of entertainment out there these days, and the media centered around the sport of horseracing feels it has to compete and up the ante by creating a new Mrs Dale’s diary. The jargon and technicalities of racing are difficult to understand and the public are lost – so it has to be about personalities.
Remember you lot, and I include myself, are all in the slide rule set, and way out of touch – thick glasses, form books, and heavy going.Well done Captain Robbo 👍
August 14, 2023 at 13:02 #1659757Bookmakers are possibly not best placed to extol the joys of racing and Barry’s views are unlikely to represent the racing public who don’t have to satisfy a profit and loss account. The difference in attending a track as opposed to a football ground is the freedom and space and choice of what to do. Country fairs offer similar settings. Goodwood is a beautiful race purse with panoramic views and beats the Emirates stadium hands down.
I didn’t take in the Shergar Cup – too busy on Saturday, but did keep up to date with the forum reports, however I found time yesterday to take in Leicester which was an interesting card and I enjoyed all the races which were competitive. In the evening I enjoyed watching a marathon sitting of six episodes of the Oppenheimer menace series which starts in my favoured 30’s decade. David Suchet’s eyebrows startled me and I stalled the machine to watch the evening races at Saratoga. Again competitive fayre and highly interesting. I player allowed me to fiddle about.

Goodwood is not a purse !
