It was indeed Cerium.

November 23, 2012 at 10:09 #420559Well done, Venture To Cognac..you beat me to it…and I saw your namesake in action and stroked him a few times at Lambourn when he was with Fred Winter who trained the ill-fated but potentially best horse he ever had,Killiney,as well as the crack novice chaser,The Dealer, and brilliant Gold Cup winner,Midnight Court, during the same era in the 70s !
Great question,Bachelors Hall !
November 23, 2012 at 18:46 #420602Hate setting the question.
Which horse fell in The Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, and Grand National in the last 30 years.
November 23, 2012 at 23:39 #420635I remember repeatedly watching the 1994 Grand National as it was the first one I ever taped on my first VHS recorder. I was led to believe that The Chair was remarkably daunting yet that year, it only claimed Black Humour.
November 24, 2012 at 00:07 #420637Back to you BH
November 24, 2012 at 12:09 #420699Hate is such a strong word… Relatively simple one this time,
Name the missing horse.
Mandarin, Mill House, Arkle, ?????, Burrough Hill Lad
November 24, 2012 at 13:23 #420709There should be two missing horses…The Dikler and Captain Christy as all won the Gold Cup and the King George !
November 24, 2012 at 13:31 #420710Not what I’m looking for. There’s only one missing horse on this particular list.
edit;- There’s only one horse missing in the sequence. You can add Teeton Mill to the list.

November 24, 2012 at 17:52 #420744Nope
For clarity’s sake, this is the full sequence. I want the missing horse.
Mandarin, Mill House, Arkle, ?????, Burrough Hill Lad, Teeton Mill
November 24, 2012 at 20:53 #420757It must be you……Bachelor’s Hall
November 24, 2012 at 21:08 #420758Indeed it is

They all completed the Hennessy/King George double in the same year.
Over to you.
November 24, 2012 at 22:43 #420766O.K i’ll try this one for starters.
What current well known entertainer was once a stable lad at Ginger McCain’s and at whose stable did Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins have aspirations of becoming a jockey.
Both names please.
Sorry i’m a bit late.
November 26, 2012 at 15:39 #420930That is a tough nut to crack, wyldesyde…to show that I am curious I will guess Freddie Starr and Noel Murless as the answers and will take my hat off to whoever gets this right !
November 26, 2012 at 17:53 #420946Lee Mack had a work experience (I think) stint at Ginger McCain’s. The Hurricane’s jockey ambitions began and ended with Eddie Reavey.
I had to cheat a little with the latter as, unfortunately, Eddie Reavey is a mere name to me. Although I do see that he had a maiden named after him at Salisbury for a few years.
November 26, 2012 at 18:58 #420955Nice to hear from you both and sorry for the delay.
And the winner is Bachelor’s Hall.
Lee Mack – the first horse he sat on at the stables was, yes you’ve guessed it, Red Rum.
Eddie Reavey – trained a few good 2 and 3 year olds in the 60’s and 70’s.
End of term report – written by Eddie’s wife Jocelyn.
‘Alex is a nice lad underneath but everytime you leave him to do a job he disappears to the bookies. Apart from anything else, it’s illegal for a fifteen-year-old. He has certain ability as a horseman but no staying power. As a worker , he’s well nigh hopeless.’
November 26, 2012 at 20:15 #420958The fact that snooker’s greatest genius was also an even greater feckless ******* in every sense of the world is one of the many peculiarities that makes life so darned interesting.
Which commentator once called a point to point race that featured the surprise guest appearance of a "whippety thing"?
