It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 15, 2021 at 13:02 #1556119Back a couple of questions, and did have to search the Racing Post database, but John Reid had 7 winners at Ascot in 1996. Difficult to work out if any did it over the jumps as the year is split and it would be a manual check.
Regarding the 1971, 1975 and 1985 Derby winners, did they all win the King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on their next outing?
August 15, 2021 at 13:07 #1556121No, Rob, and btw it was 1971, 1978 and 1985.

I do know the answer for those years, but not fair to have 2 goes straight away so I’ll let someone else bang that one in the net.
August 15, 2021 at 13:59 #1556140A lot of trust in this sort of thread in that hoping that people are sincere not to Google stuff though the only way of proving it is answering within seconds – would have got this one immediately as I use get Pacemaker monthly from late 75 onwards this took an interest in pedigrees even then and it was also unwritten law that you had to read the Oakey MR book, this Q of course connected with him being the first link of three. I think when people get smitten with a particular sport they are able to remember the first decade or so with more clarity than the present – you’ll find footy fans reeling off the starting elevens from FA Cup finals in the 1970’s but unable to even name the winner of, say, three years back.
August 15, 2021 at 14:06 #1556143That’s totally the case for me – btw you take your name from the very first chaser I ever live jumping a live fence under rules (in a match with Royal Frolic at Doncaster in 1978) – as I am pretty good on my first few years following the game, not bad on this year, but somewhat hazy on the 40 years inbetween!

That I remember Cancello more, being a so called unlucky loser, set me up to be a bad punter,by giving too much credit to those beaten, often fair and squarely – though in the case of Cancello he did win a Mackeson run at Haydock when Cheltenham were building a new stand.
August 15, 2021 at 14:37 #1556147Mill Reef (1971) was the sire of Shirley Heights (1978) who was the sire of Slip Anchor (1985).
Name the last horse John Francome rode before retiring in 1985.August 15, 2021 at 15:19 #1556166Correct.
Btw, though training’s loss was ultimately TV’s gain, I thought Francome missed a trick when he became a trainer.
The undisputed best NH jockey at the time, had he hung onto his jockey’s licence and exclusively ridden horses from his own yard the first season or two, I reckon he’d have got more owners, more quality horses to train, and made a go of it.

Aside from how the whole C4 Racing/Andrew Franklin/Highflyer gig ended (he chose loyalty to Franklin over money), he doesn’t seem to have any regrets with how things have gone and he is still heavily involved with the IJF amongst other things.
August 15, 2021 at 16:49 #1556185Francome would have been too busy trying to get in to the female owners pants to concentrate.

August 15, 2021 at 19:59 #1556237Two different horses both with the same name, finished first and second in the Magnet Cup, less than 20 years apart. What is that name?
August 15, 2021 at 21:57 #1556260Yeats, I don’t understand the equestion 100%. Halkopous finished 2nd and 1st in the race in consecutive years. Is he part of the answer?
August 15, 2021 at 22:31 #1556280That was the same horse both times RubyLight. Yeats is after two different horses that happened to share the same name.
August 16, 2021 at 13:47 #1556877Which UK racetrack sees the leader change more times in the final half furlong than any other track in the country on average?
I don’t officially know the answer to this question but I can 99 % certain guarantee the answer.
