Did he mention “favourite backers”.??
Blackbeard to conquer the World
August 13, 2022 at 16:20 #1610957Now he has mentioned how one horse is “from Adam West’s stable in Epsom, home of The Derby.”
Classic.
August 13, 2022 at 16:21 #1610958At least he didn’t make any Batman puns.
August 14, 2022 at 07:51 #1610999He had a good day yesterday, also managed to inform us several times that the Bowens had ‘come all the way from Wales’.
August 14, 2022 at 08:02 #1611002I won’t ever hear a word said against Derek – errors or not, repetition or not, cringe or not, he remains by a country mile racing’s greatest casual user friendly entertainer, ideal for holiday meetings.
He’s the “Hi Di Hi!” Yellow coat of the game and still going strong in his 70s.
People like Derek and Frankie Dettori know how to gently and effortlessly entertain the wider public and draw them into the game.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 14, 2022 at 08:10 #1611003Agree ID. There was a packed out crowd at Perth yesterday and I am sure they did not mind his commentary.
I just knew he would mention Rubstic. And was not sure why the world’s greatest Flat race needed a mention in a commentary on a National Hunt race in Scotland.
There was also a huge crowd at Doncaster yesterday because popular beat combo “McFly” were performing after racing. “Sir” Robert Cooper on SSR said something like “Lots of young people here today for the concert but you never know, some might get the racing bug.”
It would be nice to think so Sir Bob but how many of them will be there on November Handicap day or for a midweek jumps meeting?
August 14, 2022 at 09:32 #1611007Agreed too, his commentaries are well worth unmuting for, much prefer his enthusiasm to the awful inane ‘bantz’ From some of the itv racing mob.
October 14, 2022 at 13:37 #1618392Thommo is at Fakenham. The first race had an odds on favourite.
I thought it was also odds on that if it won Thommo would tell us that it “won it like an odds on favourite should” but he let us down.
October 14, 2022 at 13:41 #1618393but did he say “favourite backs can collect”?

That sort of thing is usually said by those who pay nowt to get in rather than 40 quid. It’s a load of bollox anyway although the racecourses aren’t too bothered about that.
October 14, 2022 at 13:57 #1618397“Here comes [insert horse name] with a good looking run!”
October 14, 2022 at 14:39 #1618406the run was so good looking, Derek asked it out on a date
Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 14, 2022 at 15:20 #1618415The best thing is the good looking run usually involves said horse being pulled out wide 20 lengths off the leaders while going backwards!
October 14, 2022 at 16:07 #1618424Other than Ness Ta Rah, this is my favourite thread!
October 14, 2022 at 16:13 #1618426I’m sure we’ve all seen this before, but we can’t have a Tommo thread without it
October 14, 2022 at 17:00 #1618438A Thommo masterpiece in the last at Fakenham.
He said Toby Wynne had “a great name for a jockey”. He also advised us he had won on 3 of his last 4 mounts, which meant he had “a 75% strike rate”. Does that mean a jockey who won on their last ride has a 100% strike rate?
He then clarified, lest there was any confusion, that Bobmahley is “named after the famous singer”. He also advised us that Bob Marley “owned the winner of the Trinidad Oaks.”
You don’t get information like that from Richard Hoiles or Simon Holt.
October 14, 2022 at 18:33 #1618447I was in Crieff on holiday last week and I nearly so nearly bought Thommo’s biography in the local cancer research shop for 50p ….. regrets I’ve had a few ….but then again
