October 7, 2017 at 15:45 #1320572We’ll put up a prize of a copy of the new book ‘Queen’s Of The Turf’ – a celebration of 50 of the greatest race-mares and fillies. The prize will go to the biggest individual points scorer on the day.
In the event of a draw the person with highest priced winner will take it, then 2nd highest priced winner and so on through seconds and thirds until the deadlock is broken. Thanks to Racing Post Books for kindly donating the prize.
October 8, 2017 at 10:15 #1320663Thanks David. much appreciated.
Will do the draw midweek say about Wednesday 17th as declarations are out Thursday I think, will need to know your captain by then and if you have a scorer.
October 8, 2017 at 12:46 #1320680I’m not going to be around much that afternoon as I will be taking me lad to a party and probably nipping over Fathers to watch a few races before picking him back up.
If nobody wants to volunteer as captain for this year then as last years captain I’m happy to recommend Triptych take the arm band. She was mailing me last year on who hadn’t put in a nap etc and is more than up to the task.
I was winning captain last year btw Jac, no pressure, love…..

October 8, 2017 at 13:13 #1320685As much as I would love to take on the armband this year Nathan, I have to decline as I’m going to be at my goddaughters wedding and I don’t think it would go down well if I’m jumping upand down screaming on my team between courses
so my mobile will be on mute so I can take a few sneaky peaks during the speeches.Thank you for thinking of me though and hope one of us is more able to take up the challenge…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 8, 2017 at 21:35 #1320756With aiden looking likely to send some battalion of horses to get his record it looks like being a momentous weekend. I hope the rain stays away and we get everybody turning up for what looks the best champions day yet.
October 9, 2017 at 09:49 #1320807I have changed the rules whereby the first player drawn out on each side will be the captain and their selections are used again for any absentees, so they don’t have to actually do anything.
Provisional rules
Rules
Entries can be made on either the Talking Horses Forum or The Racing Forum regardless of which team the player represents. Each team will consist of 16 players including one captain.
A draw is made on the Wednesday prior to the meeting whereby players are paired together and compete with each other by nominating one selection in each of the six races at Ascot’s Champions Day meeting with one selection noted as a nap. The first player to be drawn out on each side will be the captain for this year’s contest.
A virtual £2 win bet will be placed on the nap with a virtual £1 win bet on your other selections. In the event a nap is not nominated, all selections will be settled on a £1 win basis. Stake money will not be included in any returns but losing selections result in losing the virtual stake. If your selection is a non runner, the virtual stake is placed on the favourite for that race, however joint or co favourites will be settled accordingly. For the purpose of this competition any Rule 4 deductions will be ignored. Selections (one reserve for each race allowed) must be in by 1.15PM and no submissions or alterations are permitted thereafter.
In each match the winning player scores 3 points, a tie will be scored as 1 point each and the winning forum will be the one who scores most points. If the result is a tie the accumulated profit (or loss) of all the players in their respective team will be the deciding factor.
If a team member fails to post selections, the captain’s selections are used again on behalf of that player. If the captain fails to post selections on the day, the captain’s and all absent players score will be calculated as a losing selection on each race including one nap.
Any disputes (the decision of Nathan and Diamond Geezer is final.
Cormack15 has kindly offered a copy of the book “Queen’s Of The Turf” for the highest scoring individual.
October 9, 2017 at 11:01 #1320811All sounds good DG really looking forward to being part of this.

Can you just clarify a couple of points.
What happens in the event of a Dead heat, will full points be awarded to each horse or half?If a horse is disqualified what will happen? Will points be scored for both horses?
Many thanks DG for getting this together.

Horses don’t score points, bets are settled in £/p including dead heats as they would be by a bookmaker.
If a horse is disqualified what will happen? Will points be scored for both horses?
The official result on the day, after any stewards enquiry, will determine how the bet is settled in £/p.
Many thanks DG for getting this together.

October 9, 2017 at 12:51 #1320823Thanks for explaining that DG.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 9, 2017 at 13:27 #1320835Thanks for that DG, that’s a fair enough way to pick a captain. It wouldn’t have been
a bother putting myself forward for a Captain, with both Nathan and Jac, the obvious
choices, being unavailable. The problem I would have, and the reason I hung back, is
that if you were looking for one person as captain AND marker you really need someone
with a foot in both camps, ie registered in both forums to update both as it goes along.
To be honest, I’m quite happy just being in TRF, it does take up a fair bit of my spare
time, both contributing and following what’s going on. Hopefully someone who is in both
TRF and TH might be able to manage the marking role. It’s a great idea for a competition
and I’m grateful to yourself and Nathan for kicking it off last year
October 9, 2017 at 13:34 #1320839Thanks BigG
I was hoping someone from TRF would score this year as I did it last year, but as you say that person ideally needs to be able to post on both forums.
Anyone ?
October 9, 2017 at 19:42 #1320862I would love to be able to help out but I’ll be at Ascot having already bought my tickets so won’t be able to score. And I’m not registered with TH.
October 9, 2017 at 20:01 #1320868Perhaps if someone on here posts the scores up then someone from talkinghorses could be on standby to copy and paste it over

October 9, 2017 at 20:39 #1320873I would score but will be at Ascot (cheering the TRF picks on!). Hopefully someone will appear out of the gloom on a white charger to pick up the scoring challenge.
