Cheers paul
Apparently Italy and France are about to quickly reverse the stupid decision but the damage has been done
March 16, 2021 at 19:36 #1530090So none this has anything to do with the EU then. The Italian guy may say that it’s politics (in his opinion, maybe he’s right, maybe he’s not) but he doesn’t speak for the EU or even the other countries involved. The EMA does speak for the EU and they say AZ is safe. Individual countries can and do go against that as they wish.
I’m glad the vaccine rollout is going well here but that doesn’t excuse the rampant incompetence, corruption and spunking of tens of billions up the wall that has made up the rest of the past year.
March 17, 2021 at 00:35 #1530161In my opinion the reason that our vaccine operation has worked well is due to the Government keeping it’s nose out of it and letting the NHS Admin staff handle most of the logistics.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysMarch 17, 2021 at 05:56 #1530173Won’t stop this government taking the credit, Purwell.
March 17, 2021 at 07:26 #1530180The only reason the government started the vaccine roll out early was because of the huge number of positive cases happening at the time. They took a gamble and the gamble has paid off.
March 17, 2021 at 15:26 #1530341What complete drivel. God the Guardian thickos are out in force
HMG got a lot wrong but as even someone who’s experience of a supply chain goes no further than a newspaper round would understand, the key was PROCUREMENT
Driven on by Hancock and absolutely nailed by Kate Bingham (who was routinely abused by then left) whilst the zero experience Cypriot EU procurement head was sending instagram pictures of her holidays, it was that success that gave the NHS the resources to do the superb job they have done
And lets not forget that the Guardian was screaming that we would fail if we were not in the EU scheme. Fancy reading a paper that knows fck all about any ****** thing
And now we have the FAILED EU threatening the supplies to the UK because of their FAILURE
They haven’t even administered half of what they are sitting own but seemingly supply is the problem
And some of us had doubts about our vote for leave. Not now…No way

this is such utter rubbish that it barely needs responding to
It wasn’t a gamble. You can’t gamble with vaccine approval. It had to be approved. in a crisis, you pull out every stop to get it approved. Is that a tricky one to understand?
Our guys were working over Xmas to do so. Werent the EMA on a two week break?
March 17, 2021 at 15:43 #1530353The govt have done a really good procurement job on the vaccine, and the NHS then had the ability to deliver it.
But 1000s of people have already died due to the delayed and then prematurely lifted lockdowns and the PPE disaster; a mix of incompetence and ideology.March 17, 2021 at 16:31 #1530385What complete drivel. God the Guardian thickos are out in force

Insults and RANDOM CAPITALS. Superb stuff, you should apply for a job at The Express. Fits right in with their ‘raging gammon’ style.
March 17, 2021 at 16:44 #1530389Kate Bingham has a First Class Degree in Biochemistry from Oxford and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard, neither of which are ten-a-penny; and prior to becoming a ‘venture capitalist’ worked within the pharmaceutical industry, so she was ideally qualified to do the job and carried it out impeccably. Nothing to do with ‘gambling’ just sound business acumen
The super-efficient roll out of the vaccine is of course a great credit to the NHS but the part played by the army in constructing the vaccination ‘hubs’ and organising distribution of the vaccines themselves shouldn’t be overlooked. Their expertise in logistics is second to none
March 17, 2021 at 17:02 #1530398Spot on Drone and the NHS’s attitude has been superb as anyone who has had the vaccine knows. Also the massive role of Volunteers
Now look at the French roll out detail..,. if you dare
It was a superb joint effort.
Bingham also did it with drive and probably the eye for a deal that is part of anglo culture. USA seems to have procured pretty strikingly too. The EU was just lazy. They didn’t even appear to look at what they were signing. Fair enough though. They only have 40000 staff
March 17, 2021 at 17:41 #1530413I am a nurse who also loves racing who also has received and administered the vaccine. I have a lot of allergies and was very anxious about having my vacc and although I had a bad reaction to my second. I know I’ve done the right thing, there isn’t much of an alternative I don’t think. On the plus side- I have passed on my first tip of sky pirate winning today after seeing him at Doncaster. I can’t wait to get back to the courses and if a vaccine is what it takes then it get the thumbs up from me! This is the first year in a long time I’ve not been to Cheltenham and I can’t wait to get back! 🐎
March 17, 2021 at 18:35 #1530438Nice post Lucinda
March 17, 2021 at 18:48 #1530441Thank you @clivexx I can see both sides to the argument. I think we are lucky to be able to see a light at the end of the tunnel and get back to what we all enjoy! It’s not nice having any injection and it’s not nice having to administer them but we are all hoping for better times to come, to get back racing, holidays, etc. For me personally, I think it’s worth it after the year we’ve all had one way or another- but always good to hear other points of view
March 17, 2021 at 20:44 #1530493Lucinda all you nurses are doing a great job

March 17, 2021 at 22:41 #1530518Thank you @nathanhughes It’s a real privilege to do my job. I appreciate it has been a very difficult few months for everyone and it’s great we can start thinking about moving on, planning days at the races and being with friends and family again
March 19, 2021 at 08:26 #1530929I see that the headlines today are that the AZ vaccine is safe. I’m not sure how this is news because neither the UK or EU has said otherwise since approving it. The upcoming supply problems are due to a delay in a large shipment of AZ from India although hopefully yesterday’s approval of Moderna will help make up some of the shortfall. All in all and as predicted, this media hysteria about the big bad EU being responsible turned out to be a load of rubbish which should have been obvious given that the thick end of 10 million doses have been imported from there to the UK. The EU is having its own internal difficulties but that’s surely not for us to worry about is it?
Notably there was little to no criticism of the USA (I wonder why) for holding large supplies of AZ despite not yet even approving it. They have now sent some to Mexico. On a similar note, if anyone can find some stats on how many doses have been exported from the UK, I’d love to hear about it.
