Watching some all-weather bits and pieces this morning it strikes me, as it has struck many I’m sure, that it is just not pleasing on the eye. It’s a bit like watching footie on those cinder/ash pitches they have in the West of Scotland.
The answer – why not dye the material a bright shade of green? Wouldn’t that look better?
I suppose the answer is that it would get dirty and muddy and be impractical and all that.
On the other hand, couldn’t RUK or ATR utilise their technology to make the track a nice shade of green for us viewers. I’m not tooo worried if it is green, I just want it to look green.
January 16, 2010 at 10:20 #270182Professor Potts and others of this parish have suggested this on several occasions Cormack
Jolly good idea, though preferably dull not bright green
January 16, 2010 at 10:36 #270184These green men would definitely be an improvement:
January 16, 2010 at 10:57 #270189Why dye when they could just sow some grass seeds?

I think it looks more exotic especially under floodlights, never heard anyone complain so this is the first time and it’s a strange feeling.
January 16, 2010 at 12:41 #270204The weather doesn’t look good either. Maybe Racing UK can get some graphics experts in to place a blue sky and plenty of sunshine above all the meetings. They could also do what Arsenal done many years ago, and use a big Cardboard stand with fake faces to make the place look more atmospheric. They could do to racing what all Subbuteo collectors done years ago, and just add bits in piece by piece !"
January 16, 2010 at 12:43 #270205If that’s all its takes to makes all weather racing "a la mode" then I’m all for it. Doesn’t say much for the nay-sayers arguments does it?
January 16, 2010 at 13:12 #270209People get the wrong idea about the all-weather, claiming it’s just low grade rubbish.
Look at a horse like Aeroplane – rated 100+ yet connections have found three opportunites for it this week alone. A real money spinner for connections.
January 16, 2010 at 13:38 #270213I am bemused how aeroplane got that rating..inconsistent and strikes me as ungenuine.
January 16, 2010 at 14:48 #270217good thing you’re not the official handicapper then
January 16, 2010 at 15:02 #270219Had six wins yet only two seconds before Evans got hold of him (and one of those seconds was with McCarthy riding on its debut).
I don’t think there’s much ungenuine about the horse.
January 16, 2010 at 15:14 #270221Serious suggestion here folks – although some may doubt it.
Why not paint Steeplechase fences in different colours?
Say, black and white stripes?
Or maybe open-ditches one pattern/range of colours; plain fences another pattern/colour.
Maybe even have a sponsors name painted on the fence?January 16, 2010 at 21:32 #270307
could paint the horses different colours too for identification perhaps?

But agree about the aw track colour
January 16, 2010 at 21:36 #270310Meanwhile racing fans in the US want it to be dyed brown to look more like dirt. You can’t please everyone!
January 17, 2010 at 23:00 #270545This whole thing reminds me of an April Fools gag a few years ago (that my Mum fell for) that they were going to dye the pitch at Hampden so it looked like a St Andrews flag.
I think they should install those ‘tv screen’ advertising hoardings that they have at Premier League matches on the take off side of fences. From a distance they could say ‘Ladbrokes’ or ‘Coral’ or something but as the horses reach them they can say in big letters, ‘JUMP NOW!’ Would certainly help out Cousin Vinny!
Seriously though, I think if they were to dye the Polytrack, that artificial ‘green’ colour probably wouldn’t come across too well on tv. Even in the Hi-Def era.
