It is good to see BBC2 is going to broadcast the All Ireland Hurling Final live throughout the whole of the UK this afternoon. Previously it has only been live in Northern Ireland on the BBC, although I think Channel 4 used to show it live in the 1980s.
If you have never watched hurling before, it is highly recommended. It is a fantastic game, fast moving and exciting to watch.
A pity it clashes with the final round of the Open Golf Championship. The final always used to be late August/early September.
This year’s final sees Clare take on the “Rebel County” Cork. Clare defeated hurling powerhouse Kilkenny in the semi final while Cork overcame reigning champions and odds on favourites Limerick.
The general betting is:
8/11 Cork
6/4 Clare
8/1 DrawIt should be a close game and the draw might not be a bad bet. There is also some appeal in 10/11 for the “draw or either team to win by 1 to 4 points”.
However, I think the Rebel County will edge it. I have taken 13/8 for Cork to lead at half time and full time and 18/5 to win by 1 to 3 points.
July 21, 2024 at 12:05 #1702367I’ll be watching the racing this afternoon, but might watch this on iPlayer later. I’ll need to read the rules of hurling first, though.
July 21, 2024 at 15:01 #1702389Wouldn’t suggest everyone should watch at least one Gaelic football match a year but would certainly recommend that everyone watches at least one hurling match.
I have not followed the code this year but had a look back on the semi-finals. Limerick were way off their recent high standards but I feel Cork were offered a more intense experience than Clare were by Kilkenny who were indeed far from vintage Kilkenny too. So I’m giving it to Cork in a far from vintage season.
Cork Win -1 H/c @ 4/5
Clare to have any chance I think need to score at least two goals
Clare to score 2+ goals @ 11/10
Second-half Most Points is probably a decent bet too at around Evens as the players overcome nerves and hone their point scoring skills in the first half.
( 1 GOAL = 3PTS)
July 21, 2024 at 19:57 #1702412Nice bet on the Clare goals, Zilzal.

I mostly covered my bets with the 10/11 for the “draw or either team to win by 1 to 4 points”. Just wished I had backed the draw at 8/1!

Most of my attention was on the golf but from what I saw it looked like a good match. Clare did well to weather the early storm.
I will watch it again on iplayer later.
Next week: the football final between Armagh and Galway. I much prefer hurling but no doubt I will find a way to have a bet or two.
August 11, 2024 at 15:20 #1704482Womens Hurling Final or
“Camogie” (Ka-mogue-ee)RTE TV & Player 5.15
An Aladdin’s Cave of bets available on PP & Boyles for those who bothered to watch the semis.
A lot of very tempting ones but in end went for short favs Cork to win -4 H/c @ 4/6 1.5pts
Expecting Galway to give them a game in the first half, may concede a goal or two quite possibly a penalty, but they should pull away in the second with their myriad subs when Galway fatigue sets in.
August 11, 2024 at 18:49 #1704496Cork just about deserved the win there over the sixty minutes but that was a disappointing and scrappy affair for a final. Expected a lot more from Cork after their semi performance.
