The death has been announced of Alec Wildenstein, brother of Guy, one of the co-owners of the "casaque bleue" colours made famous by his father Daniel. He leaves a son, Alec, and a daughter, Diane.
Recent top performers he’s owned or co-owned have been such as Westerner, Aquarelliste, Bright Sky, Kotkijet and Jardy.
The Wildenstiens have had some some decent horses over the years, think it was Ecurie Wildenstien who owned Westerner (aswell Vallee Enchantee and Policy Maker), but can remember Alec at Royal Ascot after his win, he was looking a bit in decline then, a loss to one of the big racing families.
Alec Wildenstein was a very acquired taste (and for many people not a very pleasant taste) but there can be no doubts as to his influence in European racing – a very big loss to the sport.
