David Pipe is doing really well with these ex French horses, usually old high mileage types acquired by the Wilsons from claimers. He mixes up hurdles and fences with them and they seem to stand a lot of racing.
October 6, 2022 at 17:51 #1617561Declared again at Chepstow tomorrow, just 4 days after his previous run.
October 17, 2022 at 17:46 #1618932Abaya Du Mathan, by (I think) the same owner trainer combination, ahs run 18 times this calendar year, winning once. Noticing a pattern…..
October 17, 2022 at 17:51 #1618934Al Roc NR today at Plumpton.

October 18, 2022 at 18:44 #1619041Research the listed owner’s husband – it might provide insight into the rationale for all this.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 18, 2022 at 20:50 #1619053Well I’ve done what was suggested and researched Mr Wilson and really wished I hadn’t. My heart breaks for those horses.
October 18, 2022 at 22:33 #1619063I’ve been aware of the Wilsons for a long time; they sound very easy to dislike. It’s no surprise to see that they are campaigning their horses aggressively; it is presumably the same approach that has helped them make so much money in other fields.
But is running their horses more frequently than most mistreating them? I have just been lamenting how infrequently Santini was raced on the retirements thread! And if the Wilsons are culpable, then presumably David Pipe is even more so. He should know more than them about equine welfare after all. And what is the BHA’s responsibility?
It’s a tricky one, and it raises a lot of questions. It would be interesting to know how good the Wilsons are at looking after their horses at the end of their careers; I’ve always got the impression the Pipe stable are quite good at this side of things.
October 23, 2022 at 14:32 #1619762I think the same owners just lost If The Cap Fits, arguably never the most natural of chasers, after trying to exploit a 5lb lower mark over fences with him at Aintree?

November 3, 2022 at 16:03 #1621454Al Roc and Abaya Du Mathan both declared for Saturday’s Grand Sefton.
November 3, 2022 at 17:11 #1621461Apologies for my memory on this one being so poor – but pretty sure I remember seeing a racecard in Ireland the other week with a 14yo horse making it’s debut lol, how does that even happen? Can’t remember whether it was flat or jumps.
November 3, 2022 at 18:20 #1621469I think that was an amateur riders race Ben in which the owner/trainer was giving a family member their first ever ride.
November 3, 2022 at 18:22 #1621470Even so, how do you get a racehorse that has never seen the track in 14 years? wtf has it been doing its whole life? was it just an absolute donkey with no ability and like you’re eluding to someone wanted their family member to just have a bit of fun even if it meant finishing 100 lengths behind the winner?
November 3, 2022 at 18:34 #1621473I think I’ve found the horse you’re referring to Ben – Mo Churam (a mere 13 years old, you’ve aged him prematurely!).
It’s certainly an unusual age for a debut, and it would be interesting to know more about his background.
If Mo comes into the same ownership as Al Roc he’ll soon be making up for lost time…
November 3, 2022 at 18:52 #1621476That’s the one Marlingford great find!! I was actually joking when I said he’d finish 100 lengths behind the winner as I’d never bothered to check the result, laughed out loud just now seeing he actually finished 107 lengths behind the winner in a flat race!
November 3, 2022 at 18:56 #1621479“I refuse to train your horses on a point of general principle.”
Said no trainer ever.
