Binocular, Oscar Whisky, Peddlers Cross, Khyber Kim.
This is the race of the meeting for me, it will be interesting to see how the bookies price up the race.
So who do you think will win?
March 23, 2011 at 20:55 #346948Khyber Kim won it last year and may be re-invigorated from the step up trip after possibly losing a bit a tap over the winter.Oscar Whisky is a serious horse as is Binocular.
The old adage of ‘horses who run at the festival, don’t win at Aintree’ is in Binocular’s favour however I think Peddlers Cross can win this.He showed last year it can be done by following a festival win with a victory in the 2m 4f novice hurdle on the same card as this race.
Any doubts about his class were firmly put to bed following a cracking run in the Champion Hurdle and I think he will go off as the value horse at around 3/1.
Agree though, brilliant race in prospect and i’ll be there to lap it up!
March 23, 2011 at 21:30 #346954Khyber Kim just doesn’t look like the same horse as last year and hard to see a repeat win. Peddlers Cross will probably run here and will have a good chance but would need to see how the opposition shapes up. Binocular may wait for Punchestown, Oscar Whisky is a possible and at a bigger price, Celestial Halo has had his confidence restored this spring following the unsuccessful chasing career in the autumn.
Two horses I’d like to see running in this are Big Bucks and Quevega. Willie Mullins did mention the race as a possible for Quevega in the aftermath of the Mares Hurdle and given how well Big Bucks did in a slow run 3m race at the festival, a drop to 2m 4f cant be out of the question.
I would guess a small but select field will turn up on the day, could be a race to watch more than ppunt in though.

Solwhit???
March 25, 2011 at 14:06 #347180If Binocular turns up, he wins.
March 25, 2011 at 16:35 #347192I would love Quevega to run in this. Big galloping track long straight….great jumper…loves proper decent jumping ground.
She still take in the Punchestown race as their is nothing really in Ireland that will beat her except Mourad on the formbook.
April 2, 2011 at 02:32 #348344I like Peddlers Cross here too. Proving he can produce his best at Aintree after Cheltenham is a big positive for me, he’ll relish the distance. I just hope he is a backable price.
April 2, 2011 at 13:48 #348401Khyber Kim is a horse i really, really like, but he was so stuffy in the xmas hurdle, and didn’t exactly fill me with hope on his CH run.
Basically, Binocular this time of year wins. Simples.
April 2, 2011 at 19:37 #348426BINOCULAR or PEDDLERS CROSS, with a strong preference for the first nominated.
It’s hard to imagine another contender winning.April 2, 2011 at 21:51 #348436I just think the form of Binocular has taken such a colossal hit with this year’s Champion Hurdle. He beat Zaynar 9 1/2 lengths, a horse which Geraghty reckons needs 4 miles, but he was beaten 8L+ on his 4 subsequent starts over further.
Pointless bringing Khyber Kim into it, clearly either gone at the game or not in form, but Celestial Halo’s clearly not a very good 2 miler anymore given Mille Chief’s Champion Hurdle run. In fact, has Binocular ever beaten a decent animal over hurdles? Sorry to be controversial but I think it’s a question that needs answering.
April 4, 2011 at 12:42 #348595I am a massive fan of Mr Henderson and have followed both horses for the last 2 seasons. My main concern here is in this race Mr H is 0 from 14 runners! Somehwat of a concern, for me this race is made for Solwhit but i guess we have to wait and see who turns up. Great race on paper though
