Looks like its going to be a cracking renewal with Zaynar, Khyber Kim, Quevega and Quwetwo pretty much confirmed for this and a big probabilty that Binoucular will also line up.
Quevega and Zaynar will be more at home with the 2m4f and Zaynar should have a better chance of featuring in the finish this time after Khyber Kim and Binoucular just had a that turn of foot at Cheltenham over Zaynar.
Good race anywho.
March 24, 2010 at 15:52 #285314Solwhit surely will also go for this.
Dunno what the story is with Fiveforthree and Mikael D’Haguenet but maybe one of them will also turn up.
March 24, 2010 at 15:54 #285315Thought Quevega was more likely to head straight to Punchestown for the Rabobank Champion Hurdle?
March 24, 2010 at 16:02 #285319She is contesting that but she looks to be going to Aintree as well, 2m4f is her distance.
March 24, 2010 at 16:06 #285321Even though I’m fairly confident he’ll get the trip I wouldn’t be taking a short price on Binocular who appears to be better the faster the pace he gets.
March 24, 2010 at 21:41 #285425I think I read that Solwhit skips Aintree and goes to Punchestown. Would without doubt oppose both Khyber Kim and Binocular.

Binocular needs good ground, his action is very close to the ground. That is why imo he didn’t win the 2009 champion hurdle.

Can’t agree with this at all. One quote I can never get out of my head about Binny is this from Mick Fitz:
"I think he’ll be a horse to follow when there’s cut in the ground".Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he needs heavy ground, but that ground on the soft side of good is absolutely ideal.

Look at his action compared to Punjabi. Binocular hardly lifts his front legs which is ideally suited to fast ground. Punjabi on the other hand has a high knee lift in comparison. This is better suited to softer going.

Now look at Binolcular’s leg action on good ground it puts him in a different league.

You can clearly see the difference in the going in the camera shots between the last two hurdles. You also get a great view of his action at the top of the hill.
As I said to my local bookie for weeks before the Champion hurdle when they were offering 8-1 "it’s all down to the going".

The horse appears to me to go equally well on anywhere from soft to gd.
March 31, 2010 at 08:11 #286644Hi Duke
Look at his action. He’s only beaten moderate opposition on soft in races that were work outs. He’s a class horse with an action very similair to Dancing Brave and I was in Paris in 1986.

March 31, 2010 at 21:01 #286803Anyone know if Al Eile is going for number 4?
April 9, 2010 at 16:00 #288921Muirhead for me. Had him at huge odds a couple of years ago in the Champion Hurdle when 5th and he’s just not been getting ground quick enough for him. Horses running here after a good effort in the Champion Hurdle run dreadfully badly, which eliminates half the field.
Many will be on Quewtwo but he’s an absolutely colossal horse and he will hate the quick ground.
April 9, 2010 at 22:58 #289080I think it’s between Quwetwo and Zaynar. Celestial Halo has been a shadow of his former self on his last two runs, and ran poorly in this last year. Nigel Twiston Davies horses have been running very poorly of late and Khyber Kim also has stamina doubts. I think Zaynar will reverse Kelso form with Quwetwo.
April 9, 2010 at 23:50 #289095Khyber Kim will almost certainly struggle on this ground as well. IMO he needs cut to be at his best (all 3 hurdle wins came on ground officially described as soft).
I just think the course is too tight to really offer Zaynar a proper test of stamina. And like I said, Quewtwo will just not go on the ground, he’s colossal.
April 10, 2010 at 08:31 #289129On a separate note can people stop saying how much they’ve had on winners, seems everyone’s doing it and it’s just not cricket really
A race full of horses I either don’t trust or don’t like. So some foolish words beckon
Zaynar 3 miles next, preferably on an uphill track
Khyber Kim ground and there’s no Binocular to pull him into the race either
Halo, get over fences will ya
QE2 yeah he is massive, come home safe big fella
Muirhead will travel like a Lamborghini…and finish like a Ford Escort
Petit Robin can’t jump fences atm, but then he doesn’t need to, if his confidence holds after the first couple he can maybe shake these up, fresher than most
Won In The Dark often looks prettyApril 10, 2010 at 08:55 #289138Like Mad Max…
