Thursday of the National meeting. 4 Grade 1s, the Foxhunters and a quality handicap Chase. Cost = £32.

Aintree tomorrow: 3 handicap hurdles, 1 maiden hurdle, 2 handicap chases and a bumper. Cost = £42.

But you do get to see the Sugababes…

Tomorrow I am meeting my mate for lunch, we are going to Walton Vale for a few pints and then, instead of going to the course, we are watching it on the tele. Never used to miss a meeting at Aintree. Now I refuse to pay the prices they want for the summer jumping meetings in May and June.

Despite the fact (I now know) they apparently first formed in 1998, I had to google “Sugababes” for insight.

How did I morph from a heavy/industrial metal teenage/early adulthood rebel into the cantankerous veteran I now am?

    TIME, I guess.

Anyway, on a point of general principle, no one should ever pay inflated after-racing gig prices to go racing unless they have an irrational obsession with said performing artiste(s).

I casually did it ONCE (never again) and I will never forget hastily exiting Newbury racecourse with the sound of Tom Jones, inbetween dodging items of underwear lobbed in his general direction by ladies of a certain age, wailing: “Why, why, why….” echoing through my head as I escaped.

I was actually also thinking “why?” myself – but it was as in: “Why did I ever think this might be a good idea?” as opposed to bringing a prospective, crime passionnel, murder victim named Delilah into the equation.

Pfft I’ve seen Liberty X at Hamilton , Michelle Heaton walked by me as I queued at the Tote , she had enough warpaint on to deflect a nuclear missile ….
