John F Kennedy was a big talking horse I recall , winter Fav for the Derby he beat home 2 horses in three races as a three year old , went to California , beaten in egg and spoon race and ended up in Argentina . Sired winner of their biggest race but now deceased .
Waterville as mentioned earlier in training with Chris Waller in Sydney , will be out soon .

Waterville now Mr Waterville trialed over 1000 metres on Tuesday at Rosehill , 6 of 7 . Just an easy run round .

Showing my age but try my best was a huge disappointment. Looked awesome in his 2 year old days but never trained on. Air force blue another. Always be a possibility with so much speed in the pedigree. In fairness to santa Barbara she was getting there. Btw not just aidan hypes his horses. Arrest was hyped as was passenger. Always gone on.

Apalachee, from a previous Ballydoyle era. Was supposed to be the 2nd coming, then 3rd in 2000 guineas, then retired

    Poor Santa Barbara

She did look to be getting the hang of things before her cruel injury winning 2 group one’s. A bit harsh that one IMO.

Amedeo modigliani by a distance imo, touted as an arc winner during the season he was injured

Bolshoi ballet would be the colts version of Santa Barbara

I’d also throw gustav klimt into the pot

Wasn’t DADDY LONG LEGS underwhelming after being earmarked as a leading prospect?

US Army Ranger deserves a mention. 15 starts, 2 wins. These were his first two races: a Curragh maiden and the Chester Vase. He was then second to Harzand in the Derby.

He failed to win in 12 subsequent races. These included last of 10 in the Coronation Cup. Three weeks later he could not even win the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot.

He was eventually transferred to Australia. His last start was as a 7 year old when he finished 11th of 14 in a handicap at 100/1.

A few of his old horses going over jumps Sunday in Country Victoria , Nelson couple group wins few years back , ran in Arc and St Leger for Aidan . He is going well over fences .
Also in is South Pacific , Queen’s Vase winner has a run over hurdles .
San Remo another ex Ballydoyle , from first crop of Frankel didn’t do a lot for Ballydoyle but has hit massive form in his old age , he could go in again Sunday .
Constantinople still a dodgepot that beats himself , hasn’t won since his days as a Classic contender at Aidan” s but he had an entry last week , been off since September but still knocking about in OZ . Rips off in lead most times then implodes .Just won’t settle .

I’ve nothing against Aidan O’Brien personally and the only time I ever spoke to him I found him particularly polite.

But he’s a marketing mouthpiece for Coolmore and tbh not the “genius” many say any more than Pep Guardiola is a “genius” football manager

Even if it is possible to earn that label in sport (debateable) both have had a historical embarrassment of riches from relatively early in their respective careers.

Your pet dog could train Classic winners at Ballydoyle and win trophies up in Manchester.

I’m guessing this thread is about identifying the biggest Ballydoyle hype horse who most spectacularly failed to live up to the hype.

So many candidates because hype is an integral part of their business model.

I thought backing Brian Boru down to favouritism for The Derby – in the mistaken belief that “was favourite for The Derby” would fool the world’s breeders into sending mares to the old slowcoach – was particularly amusing so the real “Brian The Snail” gets my vote.

There’s only one Brian The Snail, and that’s the sprint handicapper now in the hands of Patrick Morris.

To even mention Brian Boru in the same sentence is an insult to the veteran grey.

All of that said by myself, two things here.

    1. When O’Brien does actually pull off
a half-decent training feat, ironically it passes relatively unnoticed as it is lost among the ongoing deluge of sycophancy directed towards his every waking breath.

Getting Auguste Rodin back to win The Derby after the Guineas debacle was a cracking feat by anyone’s standards, resources notwithstanding.

    2. I might be prepared to label a Gladders obscure continental cheese omelette a work of “genius” – if I EVER get to eat one!

I suppose they have to hype the stallion propects .
I like the anticipation of waiting on the horses that have rumours from the gallops that they are flying machines as distinct from trainer hype .
The one that springs to mind whenever i hear these stories was Killer Instinct . I dont think Sir Henry Cecil ever talked him up but he was supposed to be a flying machine . Never lived up to anything like it .

The trouble with hyping everything up for the stallion shed is nobody in the breeding industry believes them now either… And nobody will believe them when they do eventually get the real “best we’ve ever had”.

Do feel sorry for Coolmore that they didn’t get a triple crown winner though.

Camelot was only beaten in the Leger by a horse trained (pumped up?) by Al Zahrooni.

    “Do feel sorry for Coolmore”

Said no one in their right mind, regarding any subject, EVER.

I was there the day Camelot got beat at Doncaster – it was meant to be my Nijinsky racegoer moment – I felt sorry for ME!

They only ever did the Triple Crown project to give Frankel the old body swerve anyway.

NEVER feel sorry for Coolmore about anything EVER!
