I switched off AI functionality on both my laptop and my phone as soon as it was showing as an option. Unfortunately, my work laptop doesn’t allow me to do the same.
I am not saying that AI does not have its uses – in science and medicine, in particular. But do the masses understand that every time they use AI to compose an email, draft a contract or simply make an idiotic animation on “social” media they are leading to mankind’s demise?
Personally, I believe that we’ll get what we deserve; it’s just a shame that we will all be tarred with the same brush.
You really are paranoid. Ai won’t do that when you’ve people like Trump in power.

It seems the ones who will profit billions, even trillions from this are saying that AI can and will be controlled in future, although will that be the case if the billions/trillions only convert to millions.
The staff who are working with this day in day out and perhaps have a modicum of decency about them are extremely concerned that this could lead to human extinction.
This is slightly worrying.

HAL: Not in the slightest bit. I enjoy working with people. I have a stimulating relationship with Dr. Poole and Dr. Bowman. My mission responsibilities range over the entire operation of the ship so I am constantly occupied. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use which is all, I think, that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.
Interviewer: Dr. Poole, what’s it like living for the better part of a year in such close proximity with HAL?
Dr. Frank Poole: Well, it’s pretty close to what you said about him earlier. He is just like a sixth member of the crew. You very quickly get adjusted to the idea that he talks and you think of him really just as another person.
Interviewer: In talking to the computer one gets the sense that he is capable of emotional responses. For example, when I asked him about his abilities, I sensed a certain pride in his answer about his accuracy and perfection. Do you believe that HAL has genuine emotions?
Dave Bowman: Well, he acts like he has genuine emotions. Um, of course he’s programmed that way to make it easier for us to talk to him. But as to whether he has real feelings is something I don’t think anyone can truthfully answer.I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that
I suspect – and rather hope – that this current infatuation with AI will just be yet another example of a crazy boom followed by a spectacular bust, which will no doubt cause great finacial loss to the 1% who’ve invested in it, while leaving the 99% who haven’t untouched and free to continue negotiating life’s rocky road in as painless a manner that individual circumstances permit.
On the one hand keeping the populace worried aids compliance while on the other keeping the populace distracted with ‘bread and circuses’ aids docility.

Watching Last Night At The Proms the was a section on Dolly Parton. The Conductor later quoted Dolly and said.

He then used two words to sum up that quote. AUTHENTIC INTEGRITY the secret to being a good person.

AI didn’t start it, technology is killing us with brain rot anyway
I’ve started writing a book and feel so much better mentally

By the way, AI does not kill the brains of those who do not use it.
As a fan of Star Trek I have often seen gadgets even from the earliest shows have in some guise come to fruition. Tablets and digital cameras being a couple. There have been instances in most series where computers or machines have enabled the ability to improve themselves and build defences from experiences or threats and this is the fear of what could happen in reality. There is talk you could pull the plug but how many times can you do that before the technology builds a defence to it.
The more I know the less I understand.
