An epithet applicable to very few MPs, but Jack Ashley certainly, I think

There are few politicians I have any respect for and despite being from the "wrong" party from my perspective I had the greatest admiration and respect for Jack Ashley.

Unlike many of his "what’s in it for me?" fellow MP’s he really could boast (although he is the last man who would boast) that he made a significant change for good.

I am saddened to hear of his passing and it is a shame we do not have more politicians of his ilk.

I agree wholeheartedly with the views expressed here. He was in politics for the benefit of other people. Many people were grateful for him being the man he was. It is pleasing that he knew that so many people had deep regard for the work he did and the manner in which he did it.
