….Everyone having a go at Gavin Williamson today but, in his defence, it’s easy to get people mixed up.

Like the time I thought I’d met Gordon Elliott but it turned out to be James Corden….

Rookie error. Corden sits on chairs and / or beanbags.

I’m hearing reports that Gavin Williamson has tweeted Michael Caine to congratulate him on his 30 yard screamer for England this evening.

    Very good.

Twitter is usually full of overgrown children when it comes to politics (and everything else) but I am obviously just a big kid too because I’ve been finding some of the stuff mocking Williamson on there tonight hilarious.

Absolutely, Twitter is a cesspit 90% of the time but there is some good and interesting comment on there. It’s often not worth wading through the nonsense to find it though.

Matt Hancock got a pretty good and thoroughly deserved roasting as well. Not that he’ll care.

Twitter is a candidate for the worst thing ever invented.

I read earlier today that someone who plays football for Middlesbrough FC is being investigated for an allegedly homophobic tweet made when he was aged 14.

Is that what we have become as a country? Where a man is being investigated and possibly punished for remarks he made when he was a child?

I wonder if the FA’s investigators would care to be judged on what they were like when they were 14 years old?

Cork the FA well known for dragging bunging inquiries out for years, would release a report on the back of a terrible disaster knowing their story made page 22.

I’d much rather they concentrate on the constant abuse that happens now on Twitter and elsewhere than go trawling back years. Someone who posted stupid things at 14 has hopefully grown up by now. Those dishing out racism, death threats etc now evidently haven’t so let’s go after them.

    Sorry about that, South Park.

(I thought that was quite good – for me! – particularly as I’ve hardly watched any television since about 1994).

South Park was 1997 (and incredibly still going strong).

What I don’t get about all this abuse that goes on is that the social media firms can tell what people have had for breakfast yet when it comes to finding out who is bombarding footballers with racist abuse for the heinous crime of missing a penalty they suddenly have no idea who it is. I’m no Luddite but something really has to be done about (anti?)social media companies.

Pretty impressive that I’ve even heard of South Park then, surely?

Social Media companies don’t want to commit to anything that would involve anything resembling hard work.

They’ve created a platform enabling expression of hate and libel and don’t want to monitor it properly.

    Targeted adverts you don’t want?

    Tonnes.

    Actual protection from abuse?

    Zero.
