50 years ago a star called Vaguely Noble was foaled.Above all he brought great pride for British bloodstock being purely British bred. His performances gave a great boost to british bloodstock and gave great pride to englishmen. The manner in which it sauntered away from rivals like the great Sir Ivor placed this colt in the Sea Bird class.I wonder if it had a complete career it would have matched strides or even overpowered the likes of Nijinsky 11.Personally I rate Vaguely Noble’s 1968 Arc win a shade better than even the win of Mill Reef .On the day of his Arc win he was like a Ribot or Sea Bird re-incarnated.He defeated champion like Sir Ivor rated in the class of a Nijinksy.I also speculate whether Vaguely Noble would have won the Epsom Derby or even the triple crown. His ability to adapt to English tracks would have been a crucial factor.I still give Sir Ivor the marginal edge over a mile, 10 furlongs and in the Epsom Derby with his devastating speed .However I am convinced that the Noble would have overpowered Sir Ivor in the St Leger,King George or Irish Derby. With Hyperion to me the best purely British bred racehorse over a mile and a half was Vaguely Noble.I back him to defeat Brigadier Gerard in a King George or Arc.The British racing scene has been ovewrhemingly dominated by American bloodstock or Irish .Sadly his 50th year has hardly been commemorated.I wish Vaguely Noble was raced as a 4 year old which could have boosted his timeform rating to 142.
In his memory I am posting my mini-bio
