Really enjoyed following this thread. I too was impressed with the way the Beckett filly won today considering the amount of work Seb had to do on her from the moment she jumped out the stalls.

Mont Agel could be one to keep an eye on as well although the form line isn’t too clear at the moment.

As a sidenote, I’ll be interested to see how Aultcharn goes in the first at Newbury tomorrow.

:o Aultcharn’s out, wow. This chap’s a potential champion sprinter. Don’t expect to see him win tomorrow (Meehan’s always improve for a run), but he’s extremely highly regarded by connections.

Aultcharn easy to back at 5/1. I’m hoping Regal Park is Noseda’s star 2yo (not hard this season with only two 2yo winners).

Fighting Brave confirmed for a Group 3 tomorrow at Dundalk. I just wonder if they’re not giving him more experience before a crack at the Dewhurst…

There’s a lot of potential talent on show at Newbury this afternoon, with the mile maiden of particular interest. The Co-ordinated Cut form gets its first real workout courtesy of Tactician, but there are smart pedigrees in opposition everywhere you look.

It could prove to be an informative day. I’m just hoping Sylvester Kirk lets Free For All win his maiden, rather than give him the ‘Gallant Eagle treatment’.

Hardly going to send this to Santa Anita for the Juvenile races are they?….if there not maybe prepping for a campaign in the U.S.A. as a 3yr old?

Abysmal showing from Aultcharn at Newbury.

Wallace, it could be that there are no other opportunities in Ireland in the next fortnight to venture into Group company unless they want to run him in a race, which they won’t learn anything from. Running in this gives him a nice stepping stone to whatever else they want to do before the end of the season, and that could be running him in the Dewhurst, running him in the Criterium International or running him in the RP Trophy. I’d say that the former would be the only likely target for him, but with Steinbeck and Cape Blanco already likely runners, who knows. Perhaps they could reroute Steinbeck to the Killavullan and Cape Blanco to the Criterium or RP Trophy. Wouldn’t want to second guess Ballydoyle and certainly not about a horse who’s proven nothing.

Its just been giving the utter opposite Introduction that Aidan O Brien usually goes for.

Its looks a very decent Listed race with a few exposed sorts but good benchmarks there.

I would assume that Fighting Brave hasnt been let loose on the Gallops this week since there is such a quite turn around.

Something we love to see as there backing his natural Ability….mind you there wasn’t alot in that maiden to shout from the rooftops over.

If its any lower that 6/4 i pile in…if its edgy around the 2/1 mark i probaly leave it alone.

Trojan War will bolt up in the conditions race there….Lovely Montjeu he is

Pastoral Player shows signs of a high class sprinting prospect

Hughie Morrison has trained two winners of the July cup in Sakhee’s Secret and Pastoral Pursuits, as a trainer her just seems to be able to unearth and mould a relentless turn of foot in his stable assets and recent Newbury winner Pastoral Player looks set to follow in some prestigious footsteps.

Pastoral Player is a 2yo by Pastoral Pursuits; a horse in which Hughie trained to win the July Cup in 2007 whose having his first 2yos in 2009 which currently stands at 14 winners from 37 runners an impressive 38% strike rate. Pastoral Player is out of a mare called Copy Cat who never managed to win in her 6 starts finishing her career rated 48, but she’s out of a family that holds Averti a very consistent high class sprinter and has made up for her lack of racecourse ability in breeding by carrying through some of those class genes with her progeny.

Pastoral Player is a half brother to 4 winners including Kings Falcon a very speedy 2 year old whose gone on to run in group company over in Japan, Laudatory a progressive dual poly track winner over a 7f, Chataway only had 3 runs before never seeing the racecourse again but was a 6f winner at 2 and Gilt Linked also a 5f winner at 2.

His debut came over 6 furlongs at Newbury on the 18th of September, the ground was riding good (1.13) but there was a distinct lack of market support for him as he drifted from 9-1 to 12-1 before the off. Pastoral Player was notably slow breaking from the stalls and was ridden into midfield as the long striding Locksley Hall took them along at a decent clip, coming inside the 3 furlongs Steve Drowne has Pastoral Player covered before taking him wide to challenge coming past the 2 furlong pole as the leaders had gone for home.

With about a length between Locksley Hall and Pastoral Player coming inside the final furlong, Steve Drowne drew for the whip taking the 2yo colt right in close beside the leader who he eventually got the better off to win by a gutsy neck. The runner up isn’t a bad horse in his own right after this performance as he contributed towards the quick time right up until inside the final furlong where Pastoral Player picked up the baton and continued his acceleration right towards the line.

There is no doubt in my mind that Hughie Morrison has unearthed another Group sprinter, to record a figure of 96 on debut in a maiden is pretty special and the ground wasn’t either too soft or too fast which can normally be a factor in producing horses who specialise in a specific ground than others like for example; Your Old Pal we discovered last year and more recently Conniption who produced ratings in the early 90’s on debut at Newbury but the ground was significantly on the soft side.

The sheer speed in his pedigree and the quickness of the time suggests he’ll be an out and out sprinter, he may get a 7f in time but the mile would be stretching things but I wouldn’t discount anything in the race that travelled well because its more than likely they’ve run behind a Group sprinter in a listed level time.

Didn’t Pastoral Player throw himself to the ground and have to be withdrawn from his second intended run at Redcar last Saturday?

A worrying sign that perhaps he hasn’t the temperament to progress at this racing game.

How did Tsui get hold of Nebula Storm? Any idea as to what he paid for him?

According to the Racing Post he was sold to Demi Byrne for 470,000gns in 2007, then to Sir Robert Ogden for 460,000gns in 2008, but after that there is no record.

Your guess is as good as mine to be honest.

Strange events tbh…why would Demi buy a foal then sell it then Ogden sell it again.

    HMMM

Was taken by the performance of Godolphin’s Sahara Kingdom at Linfield today. Had it all to do and powered past the field on the outside, going round the bend at Lingfield.

He did indeed Seabird and looked a very tricky customer.
