Schubert went off at 7/2 on debut, Douglas Macarthur went off at 2/5, I think the money talks right 9 times out of 10 about a Ballydoyle horse’s ability, though not necessarily his readiness on debut. Aidan doesn’t mind his horses being beaten on debut, and Seamie doesn’t mind riding them in defeat! Aidan is on record as saying that winning a maiden on debut means a horse has to step up in class the next time before they are ready. I thought he was a good looking colt myself (there was just one stable mate in the race), he was as green as grass and by halfway, Seamie had settled for just getting him home, I wouldn’t write him off until I see his second run.

Well, technically Joey is his own man now but it’s the same mob in reality ie Magnier et al.
Already an expensive failure, I won’t be chasing my losses on Douglas Macarthur next time. I think he’s really small.
Schubert was 7/2 on debut but he was 1/2 next time, no doubt due to the theory of needing his first race. He was beaten then as well and then beaten next time at 4/5, then beaten again next time as favourite, then the following time as favourite, well, he got beaten again.
Schubert appeared again on Monday and I thought surely he can’t go off favourite again? Well, he did, and, well, he got beaten again. This time the handicapper put him down by 6lbs to a mark of 80.
Costing a million and a half, Schubert has now earned coppers over six grand. The musician of the same name was monitored in his grave by cemetery staff. Whilst not necessarily rolling over, as Beethoven was reported to be doing by ELO, the staff did say his position looked less than composed.
Schubert the horse is entered in a maiden at Roscommon next Monday, so they are giving him plenty of chances. I suspect if he goes up for sale again, Findus may be the under-bidder

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 10, 2016 at 17:47 #1250658Anyone see that one of Hannon’s in the first at Sandown. Somebody To Love – one of the all time great Queen songs and the horse would have made King Freddie proud. A daughter of Power, she totally fluffed the start but came through the field to win going away in really good style. Might be too late for Royal Ascot but definitely one for the notebook.
Can aaaaaaannnnnnyyyybbbooodddyyyy find meeeeeeeeeeeeeee? Somebaaardy tooooooooooooo…………………..Looooouuuhhhhhoooooovvvvveee!!
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 13, 2016 at 18:52 #1251152Any views on 2yo races at Ascot this week only had two bets for 2yo races YALTA at 8/1 in coventry and CHURCHILL in chesham at 3/1 any views on Churchill from you guys.I think he wants 7f at least this year looks a nice colt for rest of year
June 14, 2016 at 15:15 #1251314I have a potential runner in the Marble Hill at the Curragh, although Aidan has plenty entered at this stage.
My horse is Carravagio, who I backed ante-post for the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot.
He made a pleasing start over 5F and is entered in the Railway Stakes and the Phoenix Stakes later in the season, so I assumed they must think a bit of him. The runner up at Dundalk, Lundy, won easily over 6f next time up and was said to be potential Coventry material.
Carravagio is by Scat Daddy and Joseph revealed that his father thinks the horse is very speedy.
I don’t think there was anything worthy of mention in Carravagio’s first race, other than stablemate Lundy but they were more than 5 lengths clear of the third that day and the winner did it nicely. I hope he runs and sets himself up for Royal Ascot.
Not a bad horse

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 14, 2016 at 18:15 #1251384Beat a field of nothing in the mud at the start of the season, wouldn’t get carried away, Aiden probably has 10 other better 2yos to come out in August.

good shout Steve I hope you backed it
June 17, 2016 at 14:41 #1251986On Brave Anna’s Albany win
Seamie Heffernan “Aiden just told me to give her a little chance and hopefully she’d run well”
Ah yes, instead of the old favoured ‘hold him out the back, get him blocked off and get that handicap mark down’ tactics
June 17, 2016 at 18:54 #1252041Not shock me if this CHURCHILL wins very well tomorrow i hope he does got 3/1 now low as 5/4 for race.If he wins nice to know where he go next
And any views on 2yo races this week at ascot
June 17, 2016 at 20:17 #1252054After Brave Anna’s win today Jim McGrath said “She’s a full sister to Hit a bomb”
Having knowledge of pedigrees must be a huge edge in two year old races. Does anyone know of any sites where you can get this kind of detailed information about their siblings, because for example on the racingpost website they only give the sires and stamina index, etc

Go to http://www.pedigreequery.com/
Type the name of the horse into the search box, and click on “Horse Search”.
If there is more than one horse with that name there will be a list. There are two Brave Annas. It this case it is really easy to pick the right one. The other one has a foaling date of 1942, and was registered in India; so Brave Anna (USA), foaled in 2014 and sired by War Front is the one to click on. You will then get a five generation pedigree displayed on the page. Click on the dam’s name, in this case it is Liscanna. You will then get a a five generation pedigree of Liscanna. Above the pedigree display is a menu line; hover the cursor over the menu item “Reports”, move the cursor down to “Progeny” and click on it. You will see a list of the mare’s other offspring giving Name, Sex, Foaling Year, Sire, Race Record, Earnings, etc.
If you register to be a member of the website you have a shortcut way of getting the same information by clicking the “Siblings” option in “Reports” when looking at Brave Anna’s pedigree.
Hope this helps.
June 18, 2016 at 13:01 #1252254Cheers!
June 18, 2016 at 19:05 #1252325Though hung a bit CHURCHILL did there is more to come from he will improve past Carravaggio this year and next more he races better he be even though chesham not normally a 2000 guineas type of race this was decent race expect CHURCHILL have 2 more runs this year
June 20, 2016 at 12:43 #1252570Interestingly, Air Force Blue was rated 108 after the Coventry last season and ended up rated 124.
Caravaggio is already rated 115 and with normal progress you would see him setting a number that will take not just a good horse to topple this season, but an exceptional one. Maybe Churchill can do it but I would tend to bet against it.
For me, people got carried away with how good Cunco is and he’s clearly a temperamental sort. Maybe this Chesham won’t stack up as a great race and I think it laughable that the 1-2-3 there are 1-2-3 in the Derby betting at the moment.
I mentioned William Haggas’s Winning Ways earlier and he runs at Windsor tonight. I have been keeping an eye out for horses sired by Lope De Vega out of Danehill mares and this colt is a half brother to Dick Whittington.
There seems market confidence behind Winning Ways tonight so we won’t get rich but he holds an entry in the Group 1 National Stakes, so they presumably think something of him.
I hope he’s a decent sort for a Windsor maiden and there are some nicely bred horses in opposition tonight.
Winning Ways 5.50 Windsor
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 20, 2016 at 18:08 #1252627Winning Ways was very weak in the betting. Not sure if it was on account of the ground. He travelled well enough for a long way but you could see that South Seas was picking up and was going to win. The jockey on Winning Ways accepted it quickly and looked round to see that he was a clear second but South Seas had scooted away in the style of a well above average newcomer.
All the money was for South Seas tonight and the Godolphin horse was also weak in the market.
Seriously impressive for South Seas and ironically he is also a son of Lope De Vega, along with the runner up. One to keep an eye on next time.
South Seas is trained by Andrew Balding.
Winning Ways looks well up to landing a maiden next time, particularly on better ground. It was heavy in places tonight and the winning margin was 8 lengths, with 4 and a half lengths back to the third.
On a technical note At The Races ballsed this up, losing the pictures several times in the closing stages and replacing it with the test card information. What a shambles.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 21, 2016 at 04:14 #1252701At this stage of their careers Caravaggio looks a hugely exciting prospect especially as it is more than likely he will be even better on good ground. seeing him strutting his stuff just shows what a big loss scat daddy is to the breeding industry. If Caravaggio can harness his tremendous natural speed and settle in races he could be a top,top horse up to a mile. Probably run next in Ireland I presume as that’s where aob usually runs his good two year olds after royal Ascot.

The Phoenix Stakes would seem a logical step up to Group 1 yet remaining at 6F.
If they do want to step up to 7F then the National Stakes in September might be the next step.
I would be of a mind to leave it there for the year to be honest with you. I am not sure that The Dewhurst in October is an ideal closure of a season. Last year’s Dewhurst hasn’t seen a winner subsequently and Caravaggio may have achieved a rating before then that makes him the leading 2yo, if that is important to Coolmore.
I think five runs in a season is plenty and Caravaggio has been out since April.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
