9 out of the last 10 have been Grand National debutants (5 of the last 5). Surely becoming a mighty stat given that it reverses what the ‘experts’ used to preach?
April 14, 2018 at 22:00 #1350552Lovely stuff VTC, hope you got the lot!
He’s an incredible horse, his array of big wins is quite something.
How quickly he dodged I Just Know when he came down was exceptional.April 14, 2018 at 22:03 #1350554Thanks Kev
Totally agree, when I Just Know went down I feared the worst, but what a swerve he did.
April 14, 2018 at 22:43 #1350556My first time at Aintree was yesterday, second and last time I think was today – will never beat it for the experience. So so so happy – lost for words with “the little rat”. And they all came back safely.
If Carlsberg did weekends…
April 14, 2018 at 23:04 #1350557Milansbar and Seeyouatmidnight both finished lame; not sure how bad.

Well done VTC – absolutely superb.
Annibale Fly did me proud. Travelled beautifully throughout. He placed so my 532/1 each way double with Reed at least made a nice profit.
Well done Tiger Roll

Very well done MOM, I was thinking about your double as the Fly was travelling round. He had
a couple of bad breaks, hard to know if they would have changed the result, but nonetheless that
is a cracking e/w place. Well done mateApril 15, 2018 at 00:55 #1350562VTC you legend. Well done my friend, top work.
April 15, 2018 at 01:05 #1350563Thanks BigG – kind words. I think the winner actually won cosily in the end. Even if the race had fell a bit better for Annibale Fly, I just think he was beaten by a horse clearly high class who’s actually a good few pounds well in. But as you say, a nice profit for the double so I’m relatively happy.
As a side note, I did think the race would be a bit bittersweet for me actually. Because I had no massive fancy this year whereas last year I’d spent so long hyping One For Arthur that this year just felt a bit lesser for me. Almost like I knew that sheer joy of a long term fancy winning wouldn’t be repeated. Who knows – I’m babbling a little. VTC has been on Tiger Roll and hyped him up for months so maybe next year he will know what I mean. Like a completely different spectacle this year compared to last year for me.
Golden Miller – You don’t think Annibale Fly travelled well? Really? I thought only the winner looked better in running. Other than for about 2 seconds down the back second time round did the Fly get asked for any effort prior to the Melling Road near the end. Moved well, stayed out well, looked good in running.
I don’t know what the betting in play was but I would be suprised if Tiger Roll and Annibale Fly weren’t the one 1-2 in running from a long long way out.
April 15, 2018 at 01:16 #1350565Oh and it paid 36/1 for the place part of that double BigG. First time I’ve landed it.
Had Fowler with OFA last year with the latter leading in the last day teeing off. He capitulated and failed to even place.
So I’m pleased to get the Fly to place to yield a return from it this year.
Until next year, well done Tiger. But a warning for 2019 is that Arthur wants his National crown back..
April 15, 2018 at 08:49 #1350578WD Tiger backers and those on the places. Some journey following this little guy isn’t it VTC ?
Only his second run over fences as a second season chaser and only 9 next year, who knows what the little fella can do going forward. Certainly be along for the ride to find out
April 15, 2018 at 10:22 #1350585Well done Tiger Roll backers, especially to you Bobby.
Who knows if the little fellow won’t improve again next season???
April 15, 2018 at 10:26 #1350587Yeah Botchy, been fun so far.
Thanks Ruby, hopefully he will, just have to keep the fingers crossed that yesterday doesn’t leave a mark, as it often does.
April 15, 2018 at 11:16 #1350591Good news is that Saint Are is back home in his stable, too. I still can’t get my head round Pleasant Companie’s close up second. As you know, I end up backing half the field, but I couldn’t have that one at all.
April 15, 2018 at 11:36 #1350597Tiger Roll was all out, MOM, and Barry Geraghty says “going to Becher’s second circuit I knew I wasn’t travelling as well as some…”.
Mike confirms the going was Soft, no worse. Several jockeys have said the pace was moderate. The winning time was pretty poor. TR may not have improved on best RPR of 155, allowing AF 6 for being badly hampered & errors you could say 159, 11 below his GC form – GC left a mark. Off the pace, the Flat bred TR was able to employ a relative turn of foot to go six lengths clear then just held on.
April 15, 2018 at 16:35 #1350650Well, the RPRs are in: TR 159, PC & AF 157, BTW 141. All 1 higher than my first estimate so when I’ve dissected the race horse by horse and fence by fence and completed overall analysis I expect my figures will be very close to the Post’s. (The poor time is partly down to the moderate pace, can’t over-penalise horses for that.)
The way the RP has calculated its ratings proves once again that using 1 pound = 1 length, even over 4m 3 1/2f*, is the right approach to have taken in comparing the merit of performances throughout history when making my GN website.
*That is still the distance (since the start was moved forward again in 2013), only the measuring system has changed.
April 15, 2018 at 22:00 #1350682Interesting Keith Donoghue will get ride back on Tiger Roll going forward. Given the margin of victory I don’t think he would have won yesterday without Davy on board. Thoughts?
April 16, 2018 at 02:39 #1350698I think it might just be a wee hint, that they’ll go same route next season. I’ve said for long enough I want him to go the Graded Route, but if they want to leave him be, you can hardly blame them I suppose.
