Southfield Theatre looks as if he’ll go off a short price favourite, and if he can recapture his old form then that would be no surprise.
I’ve taken a chance though with Ziga Boy at 14’s, and Roc D’Apsis at 25’s.
Ziga did me a big turn in The Skybet, and he’s went down a few pounds since then, which will hopefully bring him into it. From a top yard, and hopeful he can sneak a place.
Main fancy is Roc though, and from a yard in top form, the 25’s was huge. Had a decent go each way, and I hope he makes the line up as I really think the track will suit him. His third to Theatre Guide in The Betbright at Kempton caught my eye, and though no danger to the runaway winner, he had plenty of solid yardsticks behind him. I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t place, as despite the price, I do fancy him.
November 2, 2016 at 19:00 #1270227Nicholls holds a duopoly in this with Southfield Theatre and Present Man, and it would take a good one to beat them. With the forecast looking decidedly mixed over the next few days I won’t be betting until just before the off, but if it is good to soft then I’ll be on Thomas Brown. Can go well fresh and heads here after missing the Sodexo due to fast ground, he surely can be competitive off his current mark. The bigger field is the only question mark as he does tend to sulk if not getting his own way, but is very talented and a sound jumper so can go close.
November 4, 2016 at 16:25 #1270533Southfield Theatre for me too Joliff, but I have completely missed the price. I almost took the 7-1 on Monday, but it is long gone now.
November 4, 2016 at 16:49 #1270539Yes 3/1 now and although I think he has a good chance I may. Is look at Carole’s Destrier with Thomas Brown an absentee. 5th last season but think the better ground will suit.
November 4, 2016 at 17:30 #1270568I’m a big fan of The Young Master, but I wouldn’t be too disappointed if just jumped
round soundly and didn’t up his mark any more for before the National weights are
decided. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went the hurdle route after this, perhaps the
Cleeve Hurdle in January, as per last year, to stay on the 150 mark. Present Man
looks an up and coming young chaser and has good claims here, but I think there’s
a good chance that GENTLEMAN JON could turn around the form of their
last meeting 3 weeks ago at Wincanton, with Gentleman Jon now 9lbs better off. He’s
very much match fit and in form winning next time out at Wincanton 10 days ago. Colin
Tizzard has his stable in sparkling form and 14/1 is worth the taking.November 4, 2016 at 21:12 #1270639Quite like Ziga Boy for this. Has dropped a couple pounds and i wouldn’t be too put off by his record when fresh.
November 4, 2016 at 23:06 #1270667Sorry to tell you Bobby I have backed the same two!!
November 5, 2016 at 10:06 #1270751Gone for the race fit Present Man off a nice low weight. Southfield Theatre on his old form would be the clear pick, form round here also but wasn’t at it last year so wouldn’t want to chance at those odds.
November 5, 2016 at 14:18 #1270849The Young Master has the Grand National as his main target and may not be spot on here. I backed Southfield Theatre for the RSA two seasons back. Raced as though amiss early last season – two last places. But giant step forward – showed he’s on his way back on final start, 4th off a mark of 150 in the Whitbread and now 147, 5 lbs better off for 6 1/2 lengths with winner The Young Master. If Southfield Theatre can come back to his novice form has an outstanding chance.
Stable companion Present Man won here lst time, loves Wincanton and improving fast. Unless Set List or Cocktails At Dawn take him on might get the lead (latter going up in trip/doubtful stayer so unlikely) which will suit the Nicholls horse’s attacking style.
Fingerontheswitch goes well on this surface and well handicapped on hurdles form. Stable in good form and has scope for further improvement but will need to jump better than has so far managed – so just a saver.
At a bigger price, if they do go a quick enough pace early Roc D’Apsis might be favoured. Came from the clouds when placed in Racing Post Chase and from a yard in outstanding form. He himself doesn’t always jump fluently, but at the price is worth taking a chance imo.
imo The front of the market is where the value is. Can’t really see any of the others winning.
Gentleman Jon has disappointed too many times for me. Caroles Destrier probably needs further on this ground. This looks too competitive for Ziga Boy who doesn’t always find much under presure, ditto Set List. Bob Buckler doesn’t look up to his handicap mark.
Taken 7/2 Southfield Theatre, 11/2 Present Man and 12/1 Roc D’Apsis, with a saver on Fingerontheswitch 7/1.
Value Is EverythingNovember 5, 2016 at 14:23 #1270852That’s a shame, The Young Master and Carole’s Destrier are out. Those two’s poor prices helped to make others good prices/a good betting race.
Value Is EverythingNovember 5, 2016 at 15:05 #1270861Fingerontheswitch for me bottom weight just needs to jump better
November 5, 2016 at 15:19 #1270862Four non-runners, making today’s big handicap chase a first-two only each way race. Pathetic.
November 5, 2016 at 15:28 #1270865Well done Graham
November 5, 2016 at 15:34 #1270866Nice one, Big G! Well done.
