I just love happy endings Young Fella
…but of course you are right.
It’s a shame that Sheik Mohammeds trust and investment in youth was betrayed by MAZ he gave him state of the art stables and his best horses. Now it is going to take some time to regain the trust of racing people, he must have a successor in mind lets hope it is someone well known in the racing world.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 26, 2013 at 09:35 #437452yes.. betrayed by that guy who was carrying out his orders.

Now it is going to take some time to regain the trust of racing people, he must have a successor in mind lets hope it is someone well known in the racing world. If it were my choice I’d probably send my 5f-8f horses to the Hannons and the others to Mark Johnston. Both stables have a shed load of runners and plenty winners. Add in a touch more class to the quality of horses and I think it would be rather surprising if they didn’t get better results than Bin Suroor has been capable of. Still, if it’s home grown talent you are looking for, there is a young guy flipping burgers in Dubai who could just be your man. After all, that could be classed as working with horses now

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 26, 2013 at 19:57 #437537Probably over qualified for SCr and SMo.Must be willing to follow instructions and speak up when told."Sorry Sir it was I burnt your burger.I injected too much smoke into it".It won’t happen again, sir, can I flip them in England sir?

April 29, 2013 at 12:20 #437845Toronado has been winning well but the horses he has beat, you’d expect Dawn Aproach to wipe the floor with them too, only Havana Gold and Dundonnell are the only hones with any fair form, and Dundonnell was fat as at Newmarket, other horses are struggling to win on the AW.
I wouldn’t be worried either about Dawn Approach’s Newmarket run, he had loads left that day, quite clearly a very lazy horse who responds greatly to the whip.
I think if Toronado wins this it would be seen as a bonus for Hannon who is clearly aiming this horse at the Derby, I would imagine Dawn Approach will have too much of a turn of foot for him. Does look like a Camelot type to me though Toronado.
April 29, 2013 at 14:24 #437859Just had a look at the five-day entries and the intriguing one is Kyllachy Rise. He travelled very well in his maiden at Newbury until blowing up in the final furlong but, even so, he has plenty to find on the book; surely Sir Henry Cecil hasn’t lost his marbles? I remember the great trainer sending out Distant View as a once-raced maiden (Kyllachy Rise has had two starts) and that subsequent Sussex Stakes winner ran creditably to finish fifth to Mister Baileys, so perhaps a small each-way investment may be prudent.

I wouldn’t say Dawn Approach is a lazy horse RR more laid back and he did produce a great turn of foot to go on in the Dewhurst, I was watching from the high grandstand looking down and it was very impressive, virtually in the last furlong he accelerated and was then eased at the line.
If Toronado and Richard Hughes decide to make all in the Guineas they will set the race up for Dawn Approach to pounce 2 furlongs from home and take the race. Jim Bolger has even decided to send DA’s pacemaker Letir Moir to France to contest his own race instead of accompanying Dawn Approach to Newmarket as he is now ensured of a fast pace set by the Hannon colt.
It’s all going to make for an exciting race and can’t wait to be there to see Dawn Approach storming home. Hoping for a few drops of rain as he won’t be wanting the ground to firm, but they will probably water the course anyway so fingers crossed that he comes home and that this race doesn’t throw up another close finish like Henrythenavigator and his sire New Approach.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 29, 2013 at 15:22 #437866I don’t think Toronado has to make the running. His last two races he has done so purely on the size of the field and the likelihood of going a crawl if he didn’t, which wouldn’t suit. The horse is relax enough anyway so if he does make the running I don’t envisage Hughes going stupid as he’s a good judge of pace but just gradually turning it up as per like in the Craven, if anyone takes him on up front I’m sure they will happy to sit behind as long as it’s a strong enough gallop.

April 29, 2013 at 15:26 #437868Very impressed by Toronado – think he’ll have the better of Dawn Approach – but what are people’s thoughts on two (relative) outsiders I quite like the look of, Van Den Neer and George Vancouver?
Anyone?

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 29, 2013 at 16:16 #437874I like the look of Van der Neer for a place. Concerned that he hasn’t ran at Newmarket but, given that he didn’t handle the bend at Lingfield a straight course [albeit a roller coaster one] might suit. Has won over 7f, has ‘quickened’ in a race and has a pipe opener already this season. Worth an ew at 25/1 I think.
April 29, 2013 at 18:05 #437886I backed GV ages ago with the hope that the ground would come up fast. It seems it will and I think you will see a completely different horse on good to firm to the one you saw in the Dewhurst. Whether it will be enough to reverse form with the fav is debatable but I STILL think he is decent ew value at 16’s. We ARE talking about a Breeders Cup winner who beat Dundonnel as easily as Toronado did.

April 29, 2013 at 18:07 #437888As for Kylacchy, I agree it is an intriguing entry. Sir Hen doesnt have many runners in the early classics but one should take note when he does. Remember 66-1 Jacqueline Quest!

April 29, 2013 at 21:18 #437923I think there might be a smell of BS in the air. At The Races had an article claiming that Corals feel Toronado can challenge Dawn Approach for favouritism in the 2000 Guineas. How strong is their feeling? Well let’s see:-
Dawn Approach 11/8
Toronado 9/4
I’ve studied those figures long and hard, up and down, inside out and had them verified by the top mathematical minds in the country. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s them but we have all come up with the same conclusion, Corals have Dawn Approach as favourite for the 2000 Guineas. Until they have altered that stance it might be a good idea to stop talking crap.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 29, 2013 at 21:24 #437926Not sure how much Toronado will come on for that Craven run, anyone think he was far too hard fit for that race?
April 29, 2013 at 22:56 #437937As hard as I’ve tried it’s difficult to fancy anything outside the top two. Then again it is the Guineas so who knows?
Toronado’s performance in the Craven rather reminded me of Haffhd’s in winning the same race, and he was the last horse to do the Craven-Guineas double.
Also there’s still this doubt in my mind about Dawn Approach- his tendency to race lazily- at the very least you’d imagine he’d be a back to lay in running. And my gut feeling is he’ll get turned over.
Can anyone make a credible argument for any of O’Briens?

As Sir Henry Cecil mentioned after Frankel’s Greenham win "he would come on for it and he has had a good blow" … I think the same applies to Toronado.
Like most on here, I can’t see beyond the first two market headers and it is too close to call in my opinion. Toronado seems to have a snappier acceleration whilst Dawn Approach appears to possess a better finishing speed.
OK, my money is going on Toronado … and I’m not going to change my mind
