April 17, 2009 at 20:01 #222339Unless something has happened to Ashram? Have always thought Soul City may be one for it aswell, as may City Style, the Godolphin horse who was pulled out of the craven yesterday.
April 17, 2009 at 20:16 #222342Soul City skips it in favour of the Curragh.
Set Sail the Ballydoyle pacemaker.April 17, 2009 at 23:11 #222364A small field doesn’t necessarily mean a poor race. Going back many years I remember Brigadier Gerard, Mill Reef and My Swallow, each a potential winner in any other year, being part of a field of only 6. That was as good a renewal as many.

Hi robnorth,
didn’t say anything about it being a poor race? just a smallish field.

Thought Godolphin stated Shaweel their Guineas horse?

City Style is a gelding and not eligible. Shaweel is definitely the number one from the stable.
The 2,000 Guineas looks a very open race, indicative perhaps that the classic generation hasn’t produced anything out of the ordinary…at least not from the Colts…
April 18, 2009 at 02:35 #222408I think the 2000 gns 09 always had that look to it though since seeing the 2yos last year. However the derby looks ultra competetive. Personally I generally prefer an open season, as much as I like watching class horses like Ravens Pass and Henry dominate their division, I hate odds on shots winning anything. Think after henry and ravens last year though, this years milers looked sure to be a disappointment.
April 18, 2009 at 08:59 #222419Don’t believe it one iota. Expect the usual quota of runners to compete.

Where are all these other runners going to come from though?
Maybe VOCALISED after a decent run today?
Can you name any more?
April 18, 2009 at 12:29 #222432With still over 80 entries why do you think there will be a small field? There’s always a few no hopers run to make up the numbers.
April 18, 2009 at 12:37 #222436I much prefer quality of over quantity anyway.

Didn’t realise Fergus Wilson had any entries.
Isn’t that thing of Hannon’s that won at Kempton the other week running? The name escapes me…
April 18, 2009 at 23:59 #222538Well why dodnt run the meeting at York this year, given that HQ had our best races last year…
This years race looks crap is probably one of the worst guineas fields in history.
This years Kentucky derby looks a better race..

Pure Poetry.
Those AW Kempton "classic trial" races are an irrelevance when it comes to the classics.
It since ran third in the Craven.
Not sure whether it runs or not but a rank outsider if it doesApril 22, 2009 at 21:57 #223065Does Dettori like Shaweel so much that he stays to ride him rather that going to ride Desert Party or Regal Ransom in the Kentucky Derby ? Or was he not given the choice ?
April 23, 2009 at 00:52 #223097He will be at HQ, Godolphim have hired US riders for the job, given Godolphins horses lousy form good luck too them…
Given the crap ride Dunkirk, plus the horses blatant lack of courage I would send Murtagh over too ride him, i am not confident of Coolmores horses at HQ, like Godolphin they are not starting in sparkling form.
