Good race. Does American NH racing still allow Lasix? A new career beckons for Il Est Francais
November 22, 2025 at 13:39 #1745286“The winner might have a go at the King George after that.”
What else does Nicky have for the KG? Could go in 6s or 8s after today’s performance.
November 22, 2025 at 13:45 #1745288Shorter than that , be more confident if IEF and the Nicholls horse had shown something , why was Nicholls horse so week in the market
November 22, 2025 at 13:49 #1745290In to 5-1
Proper horse. I just hope Nicky can train him for 3 miles and keep him at the top level as it seems like ages since he had a top class stayer, unlike when he had Pauling and Longsdon as assists, with Geraghty and McCoy riding for him.

He isn’t exactly firing in winners in the past 2-3 weeks and he has to run whatever he has at this level. And that isn’t too much. But the horse ran a bit in snatches anyway as if something was amiss. Maybe a breathing problem….
November 22, 2025 at 13:59 #1745294Well with The Jukebox Man winning so well it’s potentially looking like a classy KG
November 22, 2025 at 14:01 #1745300Cobden didn’t look overly happy early doors and went a little wider in search of better ground
I think he may of had a harder race LTO than they expectedCharles Darwin to conquer the World
November 22, 2025 at 14:09 #1745304Henderson in and out to , be interesting to see where Nicholls goes next
November 22, 2025 at 14:40 #1745318Pic D’orhy is to me a solid G2 horse at his best and although I didn’t think he would win today (going against proper G1 horses) I did expect him to finish a lot closer and I would concur that the 3m Charlie Hall (his first time at the trip) probably took a lot more out of him than connections realised.
His programme writes itself as he will likely head for the G2 Silviniaco Conti at Kempton over Christmas, the G1 Ascot Chase (where he will again have to hope he doesn’t have to face any proper G1 horses) and then either/or the G1 Melling Chase at Aintree and the G2 Oaksey Chase at Sandown.
My jury is still out on Jango Baie at the very top level, I think he is likey to find one or two too good for him in a Ryanair at the Festival even though he looks an out and out 2m4f/2m5f horse. I am not convinced that he will want 3m as the whole family is all 2m-2m4f types, he might end up a bit like Pic D’orhy in that he could mop up a load of G2 races at his trip but likely to be found out at the very top level.
Not surprised by the run of Il Est Francais to to be honest – he seems to spit the dummy every time he is taken on for the lead and he also seems rather fragile too, most likely he will still pop up in the King George (unless he has picked up an injury) and if left alone on the front he could be dangerous but he is becoming far too inconsistent a horse to put much faith in going forward.
November 22, 2025 at 14:48 #1745324He won’t get an easy lead though , Jukebox will want the lead

Not a total shock if Fact To File turns up again ;o)
November 22, 2025 at 14:59 #1745330HDLG – Absolutely, you will likely know your fate very early on if they both did run.
November 22, 2025 at 15:58 #1745356Jango Baie’s sire has a winner at 3m2f: damsire’s had winners up to 3m4f. Given his racing style and jumping, every chance he gets the Gold cup trip. Improving all the time too and out of a yard that hasn’t yet shone this season.
November 22, 2025 at 21:52 #1745393But everything on the dam (and granddam side) is saying 2m-2½m and even the sire’s highest rated NH horse was the Gary Moore’s 2m chaser Ar Mad and the sire himself predominantly raced at the 2½m trip.
Yes the damsire (Kapgarde) did sire the Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard and dual King George winner Clan Des Obeaux but Kapgarde himself was a 2½m horse and he also produced a load of 2m-2½m performers.
Could I see Jango Baie getting 3m in a King George…..potentially yes but in an end to end gallop (where you struggle to get a breather into your horse) that is likely going to happen in this year’s renewal, I don’t see that type of set up suiting him as a 6yr old in only his first season out of the novice stage (maybe with another year on his back) and a Gold Cup is another step beyond that where we have seen many a great 3m chaser fail on that final 2F uphill finish.
I think it would be a big ask of him at this stage of his career to go for the King George whereas the G2 Silviniaco Conti at Kempton over Christmas is surely his for the taking.
November 23, 2025 at 15:19 #1745440Ref Kapgarde’s racing career – the programme for young NH horses in France is such that he would hardly have had the opportunity to race beyond 2m4f anyway.
November 23, 2025 at 19:44 #1745488Fair enough LD73. I’d have no worries about racing pace, I thought he travelled noticeably best througout yesterday and would have no worries about breathers at Kempton. 7/2 is mad short now, though.
