Gaelic Warrior was 1/12 but has won by literally a furlong.

Has there ever been a more uncompetitive “race”?

The runner-up was about 10-12 seconds behind, maybe even more…..

The second favourite was a non runner. The eventual 3rd favourite fell at the first.
I put Gaelic Warrior in my 10 to follow
Every maiden in Ireland, England, France or Mars were always going to get smashed by him.

The official distance was 86 lengths. Never seen any winning margin that wide before.

Oh for the days of a “Distance” and, my personal favourite: “Bad.”

I feel my 276th anecdote about the Distance Post at Beverley coming on, but the universal cries of: “Shut the F up, Chezza, you, repetitive, boring ****!” do dissuade one a tad.

Gaelic Warrior could have won 120+ lengths but Townend was protecting his handicap mark

    Triers at the front

    Non triers at the back

Irish maiden hurdles can have 25 runner fields with 23 non triers

They go 00000 then get gambled from 100/1 to 2/1 in a handicap

I took the time after the winner had his nose on the line until the 2nd horse came in and it was exactly 17 seconds. If you consider the winning time of 4 min 13 secs over the 2 miles you come up with an average speed of 12,65 metres/second. Which would result in a winning distance of about 215 metres or 235 yards. That’s more than the official 86 lengths…

But, since a lenghts equals 2.5 metres, 86×2.5= 215 metres seems correct.

The official distance was 86 lengths. Never seen any winning margin that wide before.

Vintage Vinnie won the 2021 Maryland Hunt Cup by over 96 lengths – his win broke the chartmaking software so it couldn’t calculate the lengths back for the horses beyond 3rd place. https://www.equibase.com/premium/chartEmb.cfm?track=GLN&raceDate=04/24/2021&cy=USA&rn=1
He never fit in the camera shot with the rest of the field so it’s not as visually impressive as it could have been https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs2PeEtEdjE
This year Vinnie “only” won by 54 lengths but the firm ground allowed him to break his own race record by 7 seconds. If there was wagering he would’ve been bet down to 1/20 https://www.equibase.com/premium/chartEmb.cfm?track=GLN&raceDate=04/30/2022&cy=USA&rn=1
They did figure out a wider shot for the video this time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJBBBgcM1wU
If he were a couple years younger his connections might’ve taken a shot at the Grand National with him. Absolute freak of a horse.

Paddy Power cut Gaelic Warrior to 16/1 from 20/1 for the Supreme and from 12/1 to 10/1 for the Ballymore.

Because hacking up at 1/12 after the second favourite has fallen at the first hurdle means the chances of winning at Cheltenham are so much better.

I think they would have cut him if Townsend had held him up last and took it up in the last half furlong.
    its what they do..

Everyone who backed Gaelic Warrior at Tramore must be playing up their winnings today. Backed from 1-9 to 1-12 in the next at Clonmel.

SP was 1-14. Ricci must have had €120,000 to win €10,000 as the tape went up.

The shrewdies whoever they are, were on the winning distance ( last night) at odds against starting at ten lengths.
