Hannon + Hughes said post-Albany that she was more likely an Oaks filly, so not staying a mile would surprise me a lot.
April 29, 2011 at 12:50 #352698It’s Moolight Cloud for me. Appears to fit the profile of recent winners and trainer says she will love the fast ground. Bred for the job

I’ve looked back through the last twenty Oaks winners and not one of them started or won at the Royal meeting. You’re a trends man. Do you think the Hughes/Hannon comment holds any water?
Admittedly this does not relate to the Guineas where Royal meeting winners have a much better record. I’m relying on the only info I have to hand regarding Memory and that relates to her breeding and racecourse performance. I remain quite prepared to side step her for the Guineas let alone the Oaks.

Havant, Moonlight Cloud or Hooray. I can’t have anything else.
April 30, 2011 at 20:50 #352961I was very impressed with
Memory
in the Cherry Hinton. Connections are incredibly bullish, declaring that she has ‘grown and matured’ over the winter. She looks sure to be suited by the conditions and the trip.
At 50/1, I’ll take a chance on
Together
reaching the frame. Not the most convinceing attitude, but doesn’t have to find a great deal to be competitive. Will be much happier over this trip and she ran well against some top fillies last season.
May 1, 2011 at 06:08 #353050I do not usually back fillies or mares but I will have a small amount on Moonlight Cloud.
Yesterday the 2 placed horses behind Frankel, had like Frankel, already had a winning run this year. All the 1st time out ones struggled and were a long way back. Might be the same today.
I think I’m right in saying that Henry Cecil wanted to get a race into Frankel before the Guineas because he hadn’t had a decent gallop on the training grounds. Are all the trainers having the same problem?
May 1, 2011 at 07:07 #353055After watching the 2,000 guineas yesterday and all the supporting races you need to back a horse thathasrun the course. The way they were rolling around on it yesterday the horses with course form held their form better. There are several in the race today with course form worth a chance.
May 1, 2011 at 09:32 #353072Could that be because of putting the stalls in the middle of the track? I did wonder if it would cause problems for some of the horses.

Much of the problem with horses running about yesterday would have been caused by the very strong side breeze. Some horses become unbalanced as they run into the dip and the wind just made things look worse.
The snag facing Newmarket trainers this year has been the firmness of the gallops. Many handlers have been reluctant to let their charges stride out on such ground early in the season while they face the risk of injury without even seeing a racecourse. As a result many runners trained at headquarters have been a gallop short come raceday.

I think yesterday was such a freak of a race that it has no relevance this afternoon.
May 1, 2011 at 12:39 #353131MAKE A DANCE to cause a shock
May 1, 2011 at 13:17 #353141Nova Hawk who will get the shock of her life not running out of a bog and could improve for it [or not!] and I Love Me because I’d short listed her and then saw an oddschecker line of blue against her name. Used the pennies I won on Dubawi Gold yesterday.
May 1, 2011 at 13:37 #353143I was told by a Barry Hills stable lad (Big Bob) at the Lambourn Open Day, they really like this filly Make A Dance. If they have a classic horse this is it. It was 40/1 at that point, but I did not take the hint.
I am on Havant and Hooray today.

Plenty of money about for I Love Me. I’m prepared to cop that one on the chin.
May 1, 2011 at 14:14 #353154Memory for me!

Congrats to Frankie on a significantly better ride than he gave Casamento yesterday. Not sure about the form of the race given the significant head wind. The winner looks a decent Oaks filly regardless.
Memory refused to race …………… I’ll reserve judgement before consigning her to the Strong Suit category. A very big risk whatever she goes round in from now on.
May 1, 2011 at 15:23 #353166That looked a poor enough Guineas….i would very much doubt that group are anywhere near the 1m4f bunch except for the winner
