im considering detroit city and central house. however there is a question mark over 4 year old hurdlers progressing. central house always seems to win his share in the winter and can be swapped out in the spring when his form always tails off
October 27, 2006 at 19:47 #81162Pretty naive of you, Dave22, to try and ilicit opinions from the hardened cynical lot on this forum as to what they are putting into their tentofollow. Hells teeth! they might give something away and have to share the prize with some stranger!!!! As for myself my ten top is loaded with Irish trained horses, but like the rest I’m giving nothing away for nothing:biggrin:
October 27, 2006 at 20:55 #81163Stopped doing this contest as I always seemed to put the kibosh on promising young chasers. Remember Simply Supreme of Sue Smith’s 2 years ago? He was in my list. Poor old Poliantas would be another.
Not sure what races count for points but Newmill will surely mop up whatever Grade 1 and Grade 2 chases in Ireland connections choose to aim him at. I think you would also have to have Black Jack Ketchum in your team.
October 27, 2006 at 21:13 #81164I love the 10 to follow, so much fun for the winter, but on paper my lists look great I convince myself this year is THE year (I,ve been saying that since it started) then find out I’m in position number 74,265th and that’s my best list!! I too tend to kibosh the classiest animals, so Black Jack Ketchum your it!!!
October 27, 2006 at 23:11 #81165Grasshopper, you’ve forgotten Beef Or Salmon.
October 28, 2006 at 22:52 #8116650 points for the Irish Hennessy (the BoS benefit race) will be sufficient for the old boy this year
October 29, 2006 at 16:06 #81167I was fortunate enough to be joint 1st in 2004, and I’m basically just another mug punter who doesn’t know a tenth of what most people on here know, so it is possible for Mr Average to do well with just a couple of entries.
Would have won outright had Rooster Booster not been caught by the weaving run of Rhinestone Cowboy on the last day of the comp at Aintree:angry:
I think you’ve just got to try and hit the big double point races.
My List then was :-
Rooster Booster
Azertyuiop
Moscow Flyer
Best Mate
Beef or Salmon
Edredon Bleu
Jair du Cochet
Strong Flow
Iris’s Gift
Baracouda
Not overly, spectacular, just the obvious with a couple of lucky guesses thrown in. I haven’t come in the first couple of thousand in the last couple of years though:biggrin:
This year I will be picking from the a similar mixture of big race favourites with the odd outsider thrown in to try and get that extra edge.

October 29, 2006 at 19:48 #81168Good call with Redemption, Grasshopper. You’ll be gutted that the competition hasn’t started yet.
October 29, 2006 at 23:38 #81169Deano – the year before your success, we (JOCI Club)were robbed of a top 10 finish, when The Rooster was agonisingly collared by Sacundai on the line at Aintree, after Richard Johnson dropped the whip after the last. Would have finished around 7th had the Rooster won, but had to settle for 13th in the end, just out of the money.
There’s always this year…and Grasshopper is seemingly the man to follow, after Redemption’s success

October 31, 2006 at 17:21 #81170everyones list will change by the time we submit them so whats the harm in exchanging ideas?
what do people think about including a couple of novice chasers?
October 31, 2006 at 19:09 #81171They can be a miserable bunch on here sometimes, Dave.
I’ll make a suggestion. Leave Detroit City off your list and include instead Kasbah Bliss, the horse that would have won the Triumph if he’d not fallen. He’s already won two out of three in France this autumn and he seems a likely sort for staying hurdles in the coming months. If all goes well, he’ll have a chance in the World Hurdle, come the Festival.
October 31, 2006 at 19:27 #81172Anyone know if Eurotrek is running soon? Reckon he is up to winning the Grand National but it can’t take much racing.
October 31, 2006 at 19:47 #81173Presumably long-distance handicaps will be on his agenda this season FSL. Races like the 27f handicap at Cheltenham Stormez has won a couple of times, the Welsh National, the Warwick National and the Red Square at Haydock.
November 9, 2006 at 09:17 #81174Grasshopper’s list remains one for punters to keep in mind, Adamant Approach having gone in on the Flat recently and my addition, Beef Or Salmon, did me proud last Saturday.
There are obviously plenty on here reminiscent of the type at school who used to curl his arm round his exercise book to guard against copying but now that entries have closed, does anyone care to reveal their killer selections or do we have to wait until the transfer window has closed?

November 9, 2006 at 15:17 #81175Glad i talked myself out of going for Noland at the last minute. Its the first time I’ve done the competition so my knowledge of it was very limited (as my knowledge is in general) and I kind of thought it would be pointless going for 10 really obvious ones. I did a bit of a perm with my less obvious ones being:
Eurotrek (well not really a surprise)
Halcon Genelardais
L’Ami
Sir Oj
I found it impossible to leave out BJK, Newmill and Monet’s Garden.
November 9, 2006 at 18:47 #81176Here are my 10 to follow, the first 9 are young progressive sorts and I’ve permed them with the last 3 who are my, Hennessy, Gold Cup, and Grand National type selections
Mid Dancer
Joaaci
Detroit City
Star De Mohaison
Kasbah Bliss
Neptune Collanges
Fair Along
Voy Por Ustedes
Fire Dragon
State of Play
War Of Attrition
Idle Talk
November 9, 2006 at 20:56 #81177We (JOCI Club) have gone mainly with the tried and trusted approach of horses rated 160+ and a smattering of promising novices, but like Grasshopper, we’ve stuck to class performers and the novices are few and far between.
We have our first & only runner tomorrow in the shape of Standin Obligation. I think this horse could rack up some decent points this year. A few years ago we finished pretty high on the leaderboard, and one of the horses that differentated us that year was Pipe’s Tarxien, who had shown good form over hurdles the previous season, but was relatively untouted, and less favoured than other more hyped up novices. Standin Obligation reminds me of Tarxien and I just hope he can show us what a good horse he could be tomorrow.
Good luck (but not too much) to all!
