Alan, I canÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t agree with you on bumpers being a waste of time and money. When bumpers were originally introduced they were seen as an opportunity for backward young horses to get experience of racing. A true NH type of horse bred to mature around 6 to 8 years can certainly benefit from having a few outings in bumpers at 4 or 5.
The concept of these races being ultra competitive and running championship bumpers is wrong. Certain trainers use bumpers to educate the young horses and benefit form this.
