Funny you should say that Danny.

In an interview with John Joseph Muphy in today’s Sunday Independent, the trainer is quoted:

"The Gold Cup is my plan and I definitely want to up him in distance next year. He’s won impressively over 2½ miles on a number of occasions. He’s very versatile and he’s so genuine that you could have him jumping hurdles one week and fences the next. He’s a rare beast. Who would stay with him over three miles the pace he goes?* He has The Dikler in his pedigree. There are more opportunities at three miles as well."

Regarding the Red Mills Hurdle defeat of Macs Joy and Harchibald, he states:

"The ground (officially heavy) wasn’t as bad as people were saying. There was a gorgeous cut of grass and it was proper soft ground."

* referring to a previous part of the article where Newmill is noted as the fastest horse in the yard, "even faster than the flat horses" and also his "extraordinary cruising speed" <br>

Im 99 percent certain he wouldnt get home in the gold cup.

Interesting stuff also about Asian Maze in the weekends Sunday Indo also.  Ruby doesnt think she stays three miles.
