Don’t disagree with hunting for lesser Group races in Europe as they don’t all take as much winning as the corresponding races in UK, Ireland and France. It is interesting that it is on the same weekend as the G3 St Simon at Newbury, which I thought would be a much more likely port of call.

Last year’s winner of the Italian race, Eydon, has an official rating off 114 and a Racing Post rating (RPR) of 116 and he faced 6 other rivals with RPRs ranging from 106 to 113, so with CH’s RPR of 109 he will probably be in the mix for being able to win the race, assuming they don’t get a much higher rated rival showing up. Plus he will likely be a much more race fit horse given that he will not be going into the race off a 5 month lay off as he did at Kempton.

I would also just mention that last year’s race was run on officially good ground so will a repeat of that be an issue for Hendo as it would be a bit silly to be all set to run only for him to say good is too fast, maybe a back-up entry for Newbury should be considered just in case San Siro doesn’t get enough rain?
