If you asked any non racing fans to name 5 famous racehorses you might be waiting awhile for one answer let alone 5.
Frankel as a 4 yr old in 2012 made it off the sports pages here which quite frankly is an achievement in of itself for the sport especially given that 2012 was also the year of the London Summer Olympics.
Would I have liked to see him run in the Derby and Arc….absolutely because I think he would have won those races as 12F was well within his compass but do I mark him down for not doing it, no because it forms just one part of the greatness argument and while he might not have ticked that particular box, the other boxes he did tick he ticked them multiple times over.
He beat higher rated opponents than RW and he did it consistently, he won on ground ranging from good to firm to borderline heavy, he put up any number of jaw dropping performances (as a 2, 3 and 4 yr old) as opposed to the other all time greats that may have only managed one, two or three.
RW is a great horse without a question of a doubt……but Frankel was a complete and one off freak racehorse and I would have confidently backed him to beat RW at any trip.
