Frankel’s 2nd Sussex win seems to be overlooked compared to his 2000 Guineas, Queen Anne and Juddmonte. As you mentioned, those two sub 11 second furlongs in that race were eye-opening considering he won by being only pushed out to score by 6 lengths.
When Farhh won the Lockinge the following year by 4 lengths underlines the sheer superiority not just of Frankel’s power and speed but a secret level of latent potential we never got to see after the great horse retired.
All this adds to the mystique of Frankel. Were there sub 10 furlongs waiting in the wings? Could he have clocked 45 mph? Would he have stayed 12 furlongs and still won on the bridle? Theories are plentiful but nobody knows the real answer.
