The cost of living crisis in the UK is exaggerated.
I read this headline, “Struggling households need more help with bills”.
I have no doubt that there are many families struggling and to be honest, that would be the case in any economic environment.
Personally I think the issue is priorities.
I’ve just returned from the UK and there seemed to be no lack of people out at the pubs, eating out or having meals delivered to their homes.
I was taken to a gourmet burger restaurant which was started by a couple of guys a few years ago. These gourmet burgers are not cheap, yet when we were there, the two levels of the restaurant were not only full, but the customers represented all age groups, along with singles, couples and families.
When we left, there was a queue outside with people waiting to get in.
In the grocery store I noticed a lot of people loading up with pre-prepared meals, which is something I would also question in times of perceived economic stress.
Around the roads almost all cars appeared ‘new’, probably on lease, but whichever way they are financed, it’s still a sizable monthly payment.
I think for many they have brought these hardships on themselves in what they prioritize as important and living beyond their means.
