I just expect better from a jockey of his class/experience – a slow start meant he was on the back foot right away and it was also a slowly run race so he knew the leaders (with racing experience) were unlikely to come back to him (especially on fast ground) but there was still little in the way of effort from him to get any closer to the leaders before they quickened up for home.
Even the commentator mentioned that there didn’t seem to be much anxiety from the jockeys at the back to get closer and that was just before the 3F, Oisin really didn’t do much more than gentle hands and heels until about 1.5F out when he finally picked up his whip (which he used 5 times to the line).
The sectionals were interesting as Quicken Away ran each of the last 4F all to par whereas the winner ran only two to par with one fast and one slow – Quicken Away also had the highest overall FSP of 102.50% compared to the winners 99.72%.
CAS – Agree it was a long way off being one of the worse rides you will see but for Oisin, it was a clear tactical misjudgement on his part.
