Championship races should have an eye on the future of the breed, for which geldings are useless.
Geldings are not allowed to run in the Middle Park, Dewhurst, 2,000 Guineas, Derby, St James’s Palace and the St Leger. No one complains about that, so why should they run in the Arc?
The recent death of Tony Ives and his association with Teleprompter served as a reminder that it was not so long ago that geldings were not allowed to run in any Group 1 race. Maybe that is going too far, especially as there are so many more Group 1 races nowadays. But some Group 1s are more important than others and the Arc is one such race.
